February Reads 2024!

I finally met one of my monthly reading books which was four books this month! I read three books and one audio book! The monthly star rating was a 4.5/5 stars! ✧˖°.

🗡️ Blood of Elves (The Witcher #1 ): I love the Netflix Witcher series as much as I love watching gameplay of it. (Love Henry Cavill as well). I read the physical book as well as listened to the audiobook. Book overall is very environment building and it can be easy to get lost in the dialogue. However, it is a good read. My only turn off was the Triss Marigold character, the second love interest of the Witcher. It just felt like her whole character was just to there to lust after Geralt and it was too much. 4.25/5 ⭐️

🫖 Don’t Want You like a Best Friend: A Taylor Swift reference with a Victorian Bridgeton vibe?! Yes. I read the Kindle edition for this one and I honestly loved it. There is two love stories going on with Dashiell and Cornelia who were in the same season together but unfortunately do not get together. The second love story we follow is Gwen (Dashiell’s daughter) and Beth (Cornelia’s daughter). Though they start off as friends trying to parent trap their parents together, they slowly discover they have feelings for each other. A slow burn romance that I ADORED. 5/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️

🦊 The Fox Wife: My biggest shame is cover shopping. I fell in love with the gorgeous cover and instantly wanted it. I bought it on release day (02/13) and have been reading since. Yangsze Choo wrote this book uniquely. You follow Snow in a first person perspective but then you also follow Bao in a third perspective. I feel like Bao’s character was a bit unnecessary and tedious to read through as a lot of his side was just an overall summary of Snow’s doing a chapter or two before him. I think for me the book picked up at page 350ish (the book is 400 pages with all acknowledgments). I wanted so bad to like it but…I am sadly disappointed. 3.75/5⭐️

🏀 Hello Beautiful: I listened to the audiobook and I was in love from the start. I loved all the characters stories and how they were all built. I saw some reviews feeling like the book was just an anti-older sister book but I didn’t feel like that was the case. I actually related to Julia Padavano and I realized how some of her actions in the book were red flags that I have found in myself. The book is a heartfelt family story about heartache, forgiveness and acceptance. It’s also a retelling of Little Women. 5/5⭐️

all opinions are my own. If you wanna follow me on storygraphs for more reviews my username is hostilerat! ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎.𖥔 ݁ ˖ thank you for reading!

2024/2/27 Edited to

... Read moreFebruary is a prime month for book lovers to dive into engaging stories and expand their reading lists. As many seek fresh literary adventures, exploring diverse genres becomes essential. This month, I delved into fantasy, historical fiction, and contemporary themes, showcasing the variety available to readers. The first book I tackled was 'Blood of Elves', part of the famous Witcher series. With its intricate world-building and vivid characters, it's a must-read for fantasy enthusiasts. Following that, 'Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend' blends romance with a Victorian twist, making it perfect for fans of both Taylor Swift and Bridgerton. This unique narrative intertwines love stories that capture the essence of friendship and romance, highlighting the complexity of relationships. Additionally, 'The Fox Wife' offers a captivating perspective through its dual narrative structure. Although it struggled with pacing, it presents rich cultural references and enchanting storytelling that readers may find rewarding. Finally, 'Hello Beautiful' stood out for its emotional depth, resonating with themes of family and self-discovery, paralleling elements from 'Little Women'. This book's heartfelt exploration of sibling dynamics and personal growth is bound to leave a lasting impression. Choosing to read across genres not only broadens our horizons but also nurtures empathy and understanding through diverse narratives. Whether you enjoy fantastical escapades, historical settings, or relatable contemporary dramas, there's something for every reader! Be sure to explore these titles for an enriching reading experience.
