Travel Tips (La Fortuna, CR)
📍Mistico Hanging Bridges
➡️ Self guided tours: if you go early there are less crowds and you can take your time for pictures.
➡️ Guided tours: better chances to see wildlife but risk of more crowds.
➡️ There’s a short and long hike, but to get all the beautiful views you’ll definitely do some walking and little side quest to other views and waterfalls.
➡️ Bring Bug spray to CR because there are definitely lots of mosquitoes.
📍La Fortuna Waterfall
➡️ 500 steps up and down, we did this on our first day of the trip and legs were definitely a little sore.
➡️ Upon checkin they will let you know if you’re allowed to swim in the water. But be aware that it is Cold (refreshing when it’s hot out)
➡️ Wear nonslip water shoes, because I slipped and fell multiple times.
📍 Tabacon Hot Spring
➡️ One of the higher priced hotspring, but very beautiful. There are cheaper and free options. I recommend visiting at least one.
➡️ Water got real warm so I had to take breaks in between & my phone was overheating in my waterproof phone bag.
➡️ All the trendy photo ops were not easy to do, I had to climb and slip on some rocks to get in the right positions for the pictures and fight against the currents. But still 100% worth it.
📍 Raúl Castano
➡️ Most CR restaurants are outdoor/open patios.
➡️ This is one of the most instagrammable spot when the Arenal volcano isn’t blocked by the clouds. But if you look closer, there’s horse 💩 right below you where the horses roam the fields.
📍 Horseback Riding
➡️ We booked a tour to see the Arenal Volcano, but due to the weather we voted to switch to a waterfall tour because the volcano was not visible. Be aware that it can get muddy and you can get caught in the rain.
What to wear:
Dry fit and quick dry clothing is going to be your best friend. I know it’s not ideal for everyone, but I purchased a lot of tops that had built in bras/removable bra pads for bra free comfort.
I brought a lightweight rain jacket but people have also mentioned bringing your own disposable ponchos. We were lucky to avoid the heavy downpours, but didn’t mind some of the rain.
Also with the Rain and Humidity, simple hairstyles are the way to go.
