Compared to the busy tourist spots, the pace here is slower. Less rushing, more wandering. Think old neighbourhood vibes, roadside eateries, indie cafés, locals playing chess and streets that feel lived-in.
This area made me understand why people say Chengdu is one of the most comfortable cities to be in ❤️

One standout experience was trying the local specialty, Jin Mi Gao (金米糕). While I thought it was just okay—cold and chewy with red bean and butter filling—it’s definitely worth trying to understand the local favorites. The neighborhood hosts many spots where locals gather to play chess or just chat, giving the area a lived-in feel that’s truly unique. Photographers will appreciate the many charming corners perfect for slow walks and capturing authentic city scenes. If you want to go beyond postcards and explore Chengdu’s authentic side, Yulin Road is the ideal spot. Don’t rush—just wander, sip on coffee, and enjoy the calm vibe that makes Chengdu so comfortable and inviting. Using Alipay for bike rentals made the trip even more hassle-free. Overall, Yulin Road offers a glimpse into the slow, soulful side of Chengdu that many visitors miss. It’s all about the mood and experience rather than ticking off sights. This place really helped me understand why Chengdu is known for its comfortable lifestyle and welcoming charm.
