Chengdu | Dongjiao Jiyi (东郊记忆) is a MUST visit 🥹
I thought it’d just be another artsy district… but I ended up staying way longer than planned.
Dongjiao Jiyi has such a youthful, energetic vibe while still feeling really comfortable to walk around. Day or night, the atmosphere is great and there are sooo many spots for photos 📸
This place isn’t only for photo taking, there are lots of clothing stores, cafés and restaurants to explore too. It doesn’t feel too overly crowded or stressful to walk around either, which made me enjoy it even more.
Must-do / Must-eat spots:
📍 The iconic “CHENGDU 成都” wall — feels illegal to leave without taking a photo here 😂
🌭 Rosie’s Hotdog Store — Zhao Lusi's hotdog bun store! Super cute storefront, impossible not to stop for photos and also grab a hotdog bun. It's really good and i love the cheese hotdog one!
🥩 Meat Meat Rice — This one was a surprise. Entered without much expectation and no regrets at all. The beef patty was soft and flavorful and the chilled tomatoes is a must order!
If you have time, set aside at least half a day because you’ll probably end up wandering longer than expected.
One thing I regret:
I only realised Vanke Mall (万科广场) is RIGHT beside Dongjiao Jiyi when I was about to leave 😭
So after exploring the area, you can continue shopping, eating or café hopping at the mall. Wish I knew earlier!

Don’t miss exploring the cafes like Whatever Coffee, known for a cozy atmosphere and tasty pastries—ideal for a relaxing break during your wandering. Also, I found it very convenient that Vanke Mall (万科广场) is just next door. It’s perfect for extending your day with shopping and grabbing even more food or drinks without leaving the area. The district itself is wonderfully walkable and not overly crowded, so it’s easy to soak in the youthful energy without feeling rushed. Plus, the numerous photogenic spots mean you can capture plenty of memories. I’d recommend setting aside at least half a day for a leisurely experience—trust me, you’ll want to stay longer than you expect! Overall, Dongjiao Jiyi offers a great combination of culture, food, and shopping, making it an essential stop on any Chengdu itinerary.
