Chengdu Chill Citywalk 🚶‍♀️

芳草街 (Fangcao Street) gave me a totally different impression of Chengdu 🥹✨

Younger crowd, chill atmosphere, lots of cafés, bakeries and thrift/vintage stores to slowly browse through. It felt less touristy and more like a neighbourhood where people actually hang out, café hop and spend their afternoons.

It has that relaxed Chengdu energy, no rushing, just wandering and it seriously gave me a very tiong bahru vibe!

Things to do around 芳草街:

☕️ Café hop between small aesthetic coffee spots

🥐 Stop by bakeries (too many tempting smells everywhere 😭)

🛍️ Browse thrift stores & vintage shops

🚶🏻‍♀️ Slow walk around the neighbourhood and people-watch

📸 Lots of cute corners for photos without huge crowds

I liked that it didn’t feel overly commercialised. Just young, comfortable and easy to spend a few hours in.

One thing I realised in Chengdu: some of the nicest places aren’t famous attractions, they’re just neighbourhoods with a good vibe ❤️

If you enjoy slower days and exploring where locals go, add 芳草街 into your Chengdu itinerary ✨

📍芳草街 地铁D出口 》 芳华街 》 玉林综合市场 》 玉林东路 》 玉林西路

If you enjoy slower days with coffee + thrift shopping, add 芳华街 to your Chengdu list ✨

You can plan a day to pop by both Yulin Street and FangCao Street as they are located pretty close.

... Read moreHaving spent some time wandering around Fangcao Street myself, I found that this hidden gem truly captures the essence of modern Chengdu living. Unlike the busy tourist spots, this area feels like a genuine community where locals enjoy their afternoons sipping coffee at beautifully designed cafés and hunting for unique finds in vintage stores. The bakeries here are especially tempting, with delightful aromas of fresh pastries like French lemon tarts and matcha croissants filling the air, inviting slow, indulgent snacking breaks. One of the highlights for me was visiting the small shops selling handmade jewelry and nostalgic goods, many of which embrace eco-friendly principles such as reuse and upcycling, perfectly blending tradition and contemporary style. The relaxed pace means you can take your time to chat with shop owners or baristas, adding a warm human connection to your exploration. If you enjoy photography, Fangcao Street offers numerous quaint and colorful corners where you can capture candid moments without the overwhelming presence of crowds. The neighborhood’s vibe reminded me a lot of Tiong Bahru in Singapore—a place where heritage blends with youthful creativity. A practical tip is to combine a visit to nearby Yulin Street, which is only a short walk away. Together, these areas provide a perfect itinerary for a day of café hopping, thrift shopping, and soaking in Chengdu’s unique local culture. Whether you're a traveler seeking authentic experiences or a local enjoying a slower day, Fangcao Street is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates chill, charming neighborhoods that reveal the heart of the city.

Chengdu 玉林路 (Yulin Road) 🚲
If you only know 成都 for 春熙路, then you’re missing out on the side of Chengdu that feels slower and full of soul. Chengdu’s 玉林路 (Yulin Road) feels like stepping into an older, more nostalgic side of 成都 🥹✨ Compared to the busy tourist spots, the pace here is slower. Less rushing, more wandering. Th
