1. IF, 2024
⭐️6.7/10
– I wouldn't say this is a kids film, it's more of a film for adults who still have that child still inside of them, but they lost their way when they grew up and became adults. This is a movie for the child inside all of us, that still has that glimmer of hope. John Krasinski seems like a big child, and that's basically what he was playing in here. I don't mean that in a negative way, I find it very endearing because you don't see that a lot anymore in people.
I really liked seeing the imagination of the little girl in here, but as I stated this is a HEAVY movie, so some things kids may not enjoy in here. When we got out of the movie I asked my daughter "did you like the movie?" and she said "yeah, it was funny and sad". I would have to agree with her assessment.
2. The Garfield Movie, 2024

– It's a good movie (certainly Garfield's best) that shouldn't be taken seriously. You just have to have a good time with your family and enjoy it. There are some jokes that are more childish, but what can you do to it like that is the original children's series. There are also the odd jokes that the older ones can enjoy. The film leaves you with a beautiful message that many of us should take into account. It's not a great adaptation, because it takes several elements that aren't the same as the original series but that's okay, because you replace them with other elements that make the movie feel refreshing and different. Like any movie, not everything is good and this is no exception since there are some characters that I didn't like so much, such as the villain, which in my opinion is the weakest part of the film. It's a good movie to have a good time with the family.
3. Thelma the Unicorn, 2024

– Glitter, fantasy, pink, unicorns. Another film about staying true to who you are; having fun while doing it! Yes, there are plenty of predictable cliches here, but a fun watch for some distraction. As long as you are you expecting any in depth meaning with lasting emotional influence. Not to say there are not good lessons and themes played on throughout the film, but they are not presented in any way that we have not all seen before. It is based on characters in the book by Aaron Blabey, actually two books. Blabey also did The Bad Guys, highly recommended books + film. These illustrated children's books do indeed follow the same general truth for adult's books-namely, that books are almost always better than the film!
4. Kung Fu Panda 4, 2024
⭐️6.3/10
– Gorgeous visuals, fun combats, and lots of variety in characters; I feel children, especially those who belong to the age bracket of 5-10, will have a great time with it.
However, teenagers or matured adults may have reservations about the film, particularly those who have grown up with this series and hold the franchise in high regard. They would notice the diminishing charm, the losing essence, and the fading magic of the storytelling that was once prominent but now are gone.
The franchise has regrettably become a cash-cow, which serves nothing but one lone purpose: to mint money for the studio and their executives. I think they should stop now.
5. Wish, 2023

– I saw this with my boyfriend tonight because it was discount tuesday at the movies and we both enjoy a good Disney flick. While there are some cute moments, overall it just wasn't that great of a film. The plot was weak, didn't have a lot of likable characters, villain is kind of random, humor didn't land, the songs were meh for the most part, and the payoff just wasn't there. I didn't care for the overused "im so awkward and quirky" trope on the main character. Also, while I typically love Disney songs, a lot of the songs/lyrics felt super verbose. I read one review that said the songs sounded like they were generated using Al, and while I don't know if that's necessarily true, I can definitely see what they mean.
