Should you read The Three-Body Problem? 🪐🛰️☀️
Made into a Netflix show, this book is an award winning top-tier science fiction novel. It absolutely expanded my mind and made me think about questions I’d never thought to ask. I don’t regret reading this book at all, but pheeeewwee was it a hard read haha.
And by that I mean it is 𝒽𝒶𝓇𝒹 𝓈𝒸𝒾-𝒻𝒾 which is a category characterized by concern for scientific accuracy and logic.
This book made me wish I took more physics classes 😅.
If you want a challenge, you should read The Three-Body Problem. While the concepts explored within the book are incredibly exciting and intriguing, the pacing of the book itself is slow and the writing style lacks excitement, rather opting for a sense of melancholy at times instead. Be prepared to not understand all of the science found within this book unless you’re well versed in physics, astronomy, and other topics. However, reading this book left me with a sense of accomplishment and hope. This book is more than just hard sci-fi. It’s a book about philosophy. It’s asking questions about ourselves, our nature, our worth, our place, and what makes us human. I think that’s one of the big differences between good sci-fi and great, and there’s no doubt about it that this is great science fiction.
If you’re looking for a light read, this is not the book for you!! I recommend checking out the Netflix series instead, and while I haven’t watched it yet, I’ve heard great things! I’m sure having a visual representation of the concepts explored within the novel also helps with the tougher scientific aspects of this book and is something I personally am looking forward to haha.
As for the story itself: What are the consequences of first human contact with extraterrestrials? What happens when a secret military base successfully communicates with a race of aliens going extinct? What is their story? What is their motive? How do we react to their discover? And what exactly is the three-body problem? Read (and/or watch) to find out :)
