im giving this a 4 star but only because its slightly predictable. i had 2 theories, and 1 of them was correct. without any spoilers i would say if you like the concept of pretty little liars mixed in with a hint of the breakfast club, you will like this book.
its written from the pov of 4 people, and its actually not confusing to keep up with who is who and follow the story. so often change of pov can be confusing, McManus did an amazing job in keeping the story chronological. there were definitely some points where i wish we had more information from a specific peoples pov, but thats probably just because i wanted a few more pages to relish in the story.
the main characters are relatable, have the perfect amount of background and development, and are actually believable. the dialogue isnt over the top. it seems like McManus actually knows a few teenagers and pays attention to their behaviors with eachother, especially when put into a situation like this. so often i feel like this isnt the case when it comes to teen characters written by adults.
these teenagers actually engage with each other, have great chemistry with each other, and it doesnt rely on heavy romantic energy to keep things going forward. its exactly the right amount of romance for a ya novel about teenagers. cause well, teenagers will be teenagers.
in the end, this book is a rollercoaster of emotions. its the perfect rollercoaster making you want to get on again and again, and hope it never ends. thankfully, theres 2 more books.
