... Read moreI remember looking in the mirror and feeling a little self-conscious about my double chin. I'd try different angles for photos, but it always seemed to be there. I wasn't ready for anything extreme, so when I stumbled upon face yoga, I was intrigued. Could a few simple exercises really make a difference? I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! Beyond just the aesthetic benefits, I've noticed a significant improvement in how relaxed my jaw feels, especially after a long day. The gentle movements really do seem to boost circulation, giving my skin a lovely, healthy glow. Plus, the idea of naturally encouraging collagen production, as the original article mentioned, is a huge win for maintaining youthful skin! Here are some of my favorite exercises that have truly helped me on my journey to a more sculpted jawline, incorporating some of the moves I've learned along the way: The Straight Jaw Jut & Send Jaw Forward: This one is fantastic for targeting those under-chin muscles. I start by tilting my head slightly back, looking towards the ceiling. Then, I push my lower jaw forward, feeling a strong stretch under my chin. I hold this for about 5-10 seconds, feeling the tension. Then, I release and repeat 10-15 times. It's similar to the "send jaw forward" exercise I've seen, and it really wakes up those muscles, working towards neck fat removal. Chin to Ceiling Stretch: This is a classic for a reason! Standing or sitting straight, I slowly tilt my head back until I’m looking at the ceiling. Then, I purse my lips as if I’m trying to kiss the ceiling, really stretching that area from my chin down to my neck. I hold this for 10-15 seconds and do 3-5 repetitions. This movement helps address submental fullness and tightens the neck area. The "Open Mouth Wide" & Frown Face Combo: This might sound funny, but trust me! I start by opening my mouth as wide as comfortably possible, sticking my tongue out as far as it can go, and holding it for 5-10 seconds. This engages practically every muscle in the lower face and neck. After that, I relax, and then I try the "frown face" exercise by pulling the corners of my mouth down as much as possible, flexing the platysma muscle in the neck. I hold this for a few seconds. These two together really work the neck and chin area, helping with overall fat reduction and definition. Platysma Muscle Flex: The platysma is a broad muscle in your neck that extends to your jaw. To work it, I stand straight and pull the corners of my mouth down as much as possible, as if I'm frowning intensely. I make sure my teeth aren't clenched. This movement should make the bands in your neck visible. I hold this for 10 seconds, relax, and repeat 10 times. It's excellent for neck fat removal and tightening. Neck Roll & Warm-up: Before diving into these, I often do gentle neck rolls to warm up the muscles. Slowly rolling my head from side to side, then front to back, helps prepare the muscles for the exercises and improves circulation. It’s a great face warm-up exercise too! For a slimmer face, I sometimes combine these with a gentle jaw massage. Consistency is truly the magic ingredient here. I try to do these exercises for about 10-15 minutes every morning or evening. I've found that incorporating them into my daily routine, like while I'm watching TV or doing my skincare, makes it much easier to stick with. Don't expect overnight miracles, but with dedication, you'll start to notice subtle yet significant changes in your jawline and the firmness under your chin. It's all about empowering yourself to feel amazing in your own skin!
