Hey everyone! So, I just set up my new Instagram profile and one of the first things I wanted to do was *connect with all my friends and family*. It can feel a bit daunting when you're starting fresh, especially when you want to make sure you're actually staying in contact with the people who matter. Luckily, Instagram makes it super easy to find more people to follow by using your phone's contacts. I remember looking at my profile completion status for my new account, and connecting my contacts was highlighted as a key step to get fully set up and make the most of the app. Here’s how I did it and how you can too, to make sure you don't miss out on anyone's updates, whether they're old friends or new acquaintances! First, when you open your new Instagram app for the very first time, it will often prompt you right away with options like 'Find Friends' or 'Discover People'. These are your quickest routes to expanding your network. If you happen to skip this step, or if you're returning to it later, don't worry. You can usually find this option by navigating to your profile page. Just tap on the little person icon or your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the app. Once you’re on your profile, look for the three horizontal lines (sometimes called the 'hamburger menu' icon) in the top right corner of the screen. Tap that, and a menu will pop up. From there, you’ll want to look for 'Discover People' or sometimes it's nested under 'Settings and Privacy' > 'Follow and invite friends'. Inside the 'Discover People' section, you should clearly see an option like 'Connect Contacts' or 'Connect to Facebook'. When you choose the 'Connect Contacts' option, Instagram will ask for your permission to access your phone's contact list. It’s a pretty standard and secure process; Instagram simply uses the phone numbers stored in your device to cross-reference them with its user database, identifying which of your contacts already have Instagram accounts. Once you grant permission, Instagram will present you with a list of all your contacts who are also on the platform. It’s incredibly satisfying to see all those familiar names pop up! From this list, you can easily tap 'Follow' next to each person you want to connect with. It’s such a massive time-saver compared to the old way of manually searching for everyone by their username, especially when you're trying to quickly build your community on a *new Instagram profile*. I found this feature incredibly helpful because it quickly populated my feed with familiar faces, making my new Instagram feel much more personal and active right from the start. Plus, it definitely helped boost my profile completion status from the initial '2 of 4 complete' to a much higher percentage, making my profile feel more established and ready to go. Just a little tip: you always have control over your data. You can always disconnect your contacts later if you change your mind about syncing them, or if you want to manage your privacy settings. But for getting started, building your initial network, and seeing who's already there, this feature is an absolute lifesaver.
