dumpling 🥟 battle 🥊

Yuen Kee (many outlets) vs Zhang Ji (J8 Food Junction) - which is nicer? 🤔

Yuen Kee ✨:

- many sauce options,, quite liked the peanut sauce + chilli oil combo!

Zhang Ji 😋:

- personally preferred the dumplings here,, felt that the fillings were more flavourful

- got fooled the “xiao long baos” tho,, not the usual thin skinned soup dumplings that we’re used to & were just meat paus :”)

... Read moreTrying both Yuen Kee and Zhang Ji’s dumplings made me appreciate different qualities that each brand brings to the table. Yuen Kee offers an exciting range of sauces which really elevate the dumpling experience. The peanut sauce combined with chili oil added a spicy and nutty kick that kept the flavors interesting bite after bite. This kind of customization is perfect if you enjoy experimenting with dipping sauces to find your ideal taste balance. On the other hand, Zhang Ji’s dumplings impressed me with their filling. The ingredients inside tasted richer and more expertly balanced, providing a satisfying mouthfeel without relying heavily on sauces. However, their xiao long baos caught me off guard—they were more like meat paus with thicker skin rather than the thin-skinned, soupy dumplings I expected. Still, these dumplings had a comforting, hearty flavor that made them enjoyable in a different way. When I visited the J8 Food Junction, the atmosphere around Zhang Ji’s stall was lively, and the steam rising from their bamboo baskets was so inviting. It’s a popular spot, especially for those looking for traditional and home-style dumplings. Conversely, Yuen Kee, with multiple outlets, delivers consistency and convenience, which can be great when you want quality dumplings with a twist. In my opinion, if you love to dip your dumplings in flavorful sauces and prefer variety, Yuen Kee is the way to go. But if you favor rich fillings and authentic textures (though not necessarily classic xiao long bao), Zhang Ji offers a heartier dumpling experience. Both places are worth trying if you’re in the mood for a dumpling battle where sauce creativity meets filling mastery.

🇸🇬Yuen Kee Dumpling & Wanton🥟Popular in Singapore
I've been hearing a lot of hype about Yuen Kee dumplings lately—most outlets reportedly have long queues just for a bowl, with wait times around 40 minutes based on reviews. . But I actually skipped the queue because I found a newly opened outlet that not many people seem to know about yet.
