If Abby Jimenez wrote it, you can bet I’m reading it.
This one is definitely in my top 3 of all her books! It’s a story that will stay with me for a long time.
It’s a love story—sweet, emotional, and real. But what really hit home for me was how it portrayed families as imperfect and the truths about being a caregiver. I also feel that you see the difference between supporting and helping ( does that make sense ?)
Our parents are flawed, just like everyone else, and I’ve always felt that understanding them helps us better understand ourselves. That said, I’m not suggesting you keep toxic family members in your life (don’t @ me, I don’t care what the reason is).
Xavier was by far my favorite character! He’s the definition of “if he wanted to, he would.”

“think we grow up and we either get harder or we get softer on our parents. We realize how fucked up they actually were or we give them a pass because adulting is hard and now we get it. They’re people and they make mistakes.

Read morePicking up a new Abby Jimenez book always fills me with a sense of anticipation, and 'Say You'll Remember Me' did not disappoint – it truly cemented its place in my top three of her incredible works. Before even diving into the pages, the stunning book cover of 'Say You'll Remember Me' caught my eye. The colorful illustration featuring a couple kissing, a dog with a stick, and a pier with a Ferris wheel in the background perfectly sets the tone for the journey ahead. And seeing Abby Jimenez identified as a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author right there, plus a glowing quote from Emily Henry, just solidified my excitement.
This isn't just a sweet love story; it’s a deeply emotional and incredibly real exploration of human connection and, perhaps most profoundly, family. What really struck me was Jimenez’s honest portrayal of imperfect families. We often grow up with idealized notions of what family should be, but this book bravely tackles the messy, complicated truths. It's a powerful reminder that our parents are flawed individuals, just like everyone else, and understanding their struggles can offer profound insights into our own lives. It’s not about excusing toxic behavior, but rather gaining a more empathetic perspective on the complexities of adulting and relationships.
The narrative also delves into the often-unseen realities of being a caregiver. It beautifully illustrates the emotional weight, the sacrifices, and the profound love involved in caring for another. The book makes a subtle yet significant distinction between merely 'helping' someone and truly 'supporting' them, allowing them agency and dignity. This nuance resonated deeply with me, prompting reflection on how we interact with and uplift those we care about in our own lives.
And can we talk about Xavier? He is, without a doubt, my favorite character in this book. He perfectly embodies the phrase 'if he wanted to, he would.' His actions consistently speak louder than words, showcasing a level of dedication and genuine care that is truly swoon-worthy. He's the kind of character you root for endlessly, and his presence adds so much warmth and authenticity to the story.
Overall, 'Say You'll Remember Me' is more than just a romance; it’s an experience that lingers long after you’ve turned the final page. It’s a testament to Abby Jimenez’s skill in crafting stories that are not only heartwarming but also thought-provoking and deeply human. If you're looking for a book that offers a heartfelt love story intertwined with poignant insights into family dynamics and the true meaning of support, I wholeheartedly recommend this 5-star read.
