... Read moreReading slumps are something I’m sure many book lovers experience from time to time, and my recent nine-book journey has definitely felt like one. Even though I was excited to dive into some highly recommended titles, not all of them lived up to my expectations. For example, S.A. Cosby’s "King of Ashes" was a highlight and reminded me why I love his work — his storytelling is consistently gripping and impactful. On the other hand, "The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening" really let me down, which was tough because I’m a huge fan of the original show and have been eager to explore its literary adaptation.
What stood out to me during this reading stretch is how subjective book experiences can be. What others rave about sometimes doesn’t resonate with me, making the reading slump partly about matching my current mood and preferences with the right stories. Books like "How to Solve Your Own Murder" and "Mr & Mrs Witch" were middle-of-the-road reads, which in a slump can feel disappointing but also remind you that not every book has to be a five-star hit.
To get out of a slump, I’ve found it helpful to mix up genres and authors, sometimes revisiting favorites that I know I’ll enjoy to rebuild enthusiasm. Also, engaging with fellow readers online has been a great way to discover hidden gems and get motivated. Reflecting on this recent stack of books, I’m reminded how personal and evolving the reading journey is, and that slumps are often just temporary ebbs.
Has anyone else experienced this feeling with a mix of standout books and disappointments? Sharing recommendations or simply connecting about these ups and downs can make a huge difference. I’m looking forward to my next read breaking this cycle and bringing back the joy of becoming fully absorbed in a story again.
