So… not a ton of actual novel words got written yesterday. Instead, I found myself knee-deep in my master outline, trying to fix the mess that comes from writing “for the vibes” and then realizing structure actually matters. Who knew?
I’m back up to chapter 21 in the new outline, which feels like a small victory. It’s weird—how you can feel both proud of the progress and totally behind at the same time. I think every writer hits that point where the story in your head outpaces the one on the page, and you realize the only way forward is to pause and clean up the roadmap.
I used to think stopping to re-outline meant I was doing something wrong, but now I get that it’s just part of the process. Stories shift. Characters make choices you didn’t plan for. Plot threads tangle. You hit the brakes, step back, and find a better route.
So yeah. Not much new writing, but a lot of recalibrating. Hopefully I’ll be back in the actual draft soon. If you’re in the same boat—stuck, circling, unsure—it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means the story’s growing.
