Dogs really are the best!

It's funny, before I even wrote a single word of my book, I knew my own furry companion, Akaya, would be a huge inspiration. She's the real-life 'Deyka' from my story, and truly, she embodies everything wonderful about why dogs are called a girl's (and everyone's!) best friend. Have you ever wondered why dogs are so loyal to humans? It's a bond forged over thousands of years. From ancient times, dogs worked alongside us, hunting, guarding, and eventually, becoming beloved family members. This shared history has hardwired them to seek connection and loyalty with us. My Akaya, even in her golden years, always has an eye on me, following me from room to room, just making sure I'm okay. People often ask, 'why are dogs so friendly to humans?' I think it stems from that deep-seated desire for connection. They thrive on interaction, love, and a sense of belonging. My Akaya, for instance, has this adorable habit. The moment I sit down, she'll often sprawl out on her back, those little brown, stubby legs sticking straight up, just begging for a belly rub. It's her way of saying, 'I trust you, I love you, and I want to be close.' And who can resist obliging her with a belly rub that caused her to thump her foot in appreciation? This unconditional love and companionship is precisely why dogs are such good companions. They don't judge; they just offer comfort. Whether you've had a tough day or you're just relaxing, their presence is a calming force. I've found so much solace in just having Akaya by my side, her floppy ears sometimes plastered against my bed, just being there. There's a subtle understanding that passes between us that words can't capture. It’s what makes them so nice, really – their genuine desire to connect and bring joy. So, when I say 'dogs really are the best,' it's not just a cute phrase. It's a testament to the profound impact these animals have on our lives.
