TONIGHT’S READING LINEUP
Tonight’s book lineup!
First off we’ve got Chicka Chicka Boom Boom which I’m sure many of you know is a classic, my mom used to read this to me when I was a baby as well. I also like this one it helps teach the ABC’s! The second one for tonight is called mommy loves you and it is the sweetest little book that focuses on a mother’s love with their baby. this was a new one for us and I loved it 🤍.
So usually we read more books than just two, but someone decided to skip their afternoon nap today, so she got a little grumpy and impatient and was definitely ready for bedtime. She also spent most of the time trying to eat the books because she is in her era of just wanting to put everything in her mouth so it was more so me reading to myself, but the books were good so oh well 😂.
Ever since I had my baby and started reading to her, I swear there have been so many memories that have been pulled out of the depths of my brain of my mom reading the same books to me and it’s such a warm feeling to be able to read the same books to my daughter. I am so glad that lots of people in my life got me the classics because I wouldn’t have remembered them until someone showed them to me!

It's so wonderful to find books that truly resonate, both with our little ones and with our own nostalgic hearts! After sharing our love for "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and "Mommy Loves You," I’ve had so many of you ask for more recommendations—especially for books that capture that same magical, educational, and heartwarming feel. If you're searching for books like the classic "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" for your baby's library, you're in for a treat! What makes "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" such an enduring classic, loved by generations, including when my mom read it to me, and now by my baby? It's the perfect blend of catchy rhythm, vibrant illustrations by Lois Ehlert, and a super fun way to learn the ABCs. The way the alphabet letters race up the coconut tree and then tumble down creates a dynamic story that keeps even the wriggliest babies engaged. It’s a fantastic example of a book that seamlessly combines early literacy with pure joy. The OCR also highlighted it as "a classic, teaches about the ABC's! by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault illustrated by Lois Ehlert," perfectly summing up its appeal. So, when looking for books like it, I tend to focus on a few key elements: Rhythm and Repetition: Kids, especially babies and toddlers, thrive on predictable patterns. Books with a strong rhythm or repetitive phrases are not only fun to read aloud but also help with language development. Vibrant Illustrations: Bright, clear, and engaging artwork is crucial. It captures their attention and helps tell the story even before they understand the words. Early Learning Concepts: Whether it’s ABCs, counting, colors, or animal sounds, books that subtly introduce these concepts are invaluable. Interactive Potential: Can you point things out? Make sounds? Ask simple questions? This engagement makes reading an active, rather than passive, experience. With those criteria in mind, here are a few more picture books that have earned a permanent spot on our bookshelf, reminiscent of the magic of "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" or the sweet sentiment of "Mommy Loves You" (which the OCR confirms is "the sweetest mother & baby book"): *Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?* (also by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle): If you love the rhythmic style of "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," you absolutely must check out "Brown Bear." It's another classic that uses repetition to introduce colors and animals. Every time I read it, my baby's eyes light up, waiting for the next creature to appear. It's truly mesmerizing for them! *The Very Hungry Caterpillar* (by Eric Carle): This isn't just a story; it's an an adventure! With its beautiful collage illustrations and clever cut-out pages, it teaches counting, days of the week, and the life cycle of a butterfly in such a memorable way. It’s tactile and fun, just like exploring a good board book should be. *Goodnight Moon* (by Margaret Wise Brown): While different in style, this book offers a calming, soothing rhythm that makes it a perfect bedtime ritual. It's a gentle classic that helps wind down the day, much like the comforting feeling of "Mommy Loves You." *Where Is Baby's Belly Button?* (by Karen Katz): For a more interactive experience focused on body parts and peek-a-boo, Karen Katz's books are fantastic. They are bright, engaging, and perfect for tiny hands to lift flaps, much like the active engagement you get from pointing out letters in "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." Reading to your baby isn't always about perfection. As I mentioned, sometimes it’s more about them trying to eat the books than listen! And that's okay. It’s about creating a routine, sharing moments, and fostering a love for books from an early age. Don't be afraid to reread favorites a hundred times, let them explore the pages, and most importantly, enjoy those precious snuggles. These early reading experiences truly build a foundation for a lifetime of learning and connection.
