BERRY FIRST BDAY PARTY GROCERY HAUL🍓
We just had my daughter’s “Berry First” birthday party and I can’t wait to share all the details!!
We had around 35 people at her party so I went to Walmart for grocery shopping to keep the cost down a little for food. We did a food table with desserts and sides and then grilled burgers and hotdogs for the main meal.
I’ll be sharing the recipes to a few things I made (cake, pops, strawberry shortcake dip, & chocolate dipped pretzel rods) shortly! I wasn’t planning on getting the mini donuts, but I saw them at Walmart and I just couldn’t resist because they were so perfect for the theme!!
I would also definitely recommend having family members each bring a few sides or desserts if they are willing to help so you don’t have to end up buying or making everything by yourself- it can be a lot of work!

Planning my little one's 'Berry First' birthday was such a joy, but also a challenge to keep everything cohesive and budget-friendly! After nailing down the grocery haul, I focused on making the food and atmosphere truly embody that sweet berry theme without breaking the bank. For food, beyond the grilled burgers and hotdogs, we really leaned into easy, fresh options. We had platters piled high with fresh strawberries and blueberries, along with chunks of juicy watermelon – perfect for little hands and adults alike. Instead of just a simple fruit bowl, I made some cute fruit skewers using those treat sticks mentioned in the haul. They look fancy but are super easy to assemble! The strawberry cheesecake dip (made with cream cheese, whipped topping, and that delicious strawberry pie filling served with vanilla wafers) was a huge hit, and so simple to whip up ahead of time. And those adorable strawberry iced mini donuts from Walmart? They were a last-minute addition but totally elevated the dessert table! For the cake pops, I used a vanilla cake mix and decorated them with red sanding sugar and sugar pearls for that extra sparkle, using the gel food colors to get the perfect berry shades. They were a fun alternative to just cake. Now, let's talk about berry themed party favors – something I really wanted to get right! For the little ones, I put together small bags with berry-themed stickers, a mini bubble wand, and a small packet of berry fruit snacks. For the adults, I found cute little berry-shaped soaps online, or you could even give out small packets of berry seeds for planting. Another idea is to bake small muffin-sized berry crumbles and package them up with a cute tag saying 'Thanks for making my first year berry sweet!'. To tie everything together visually, simple decorations made a huge difference. We used a classic red and white gingham table cover for the food station – it immediately gave off a picnic-in-a-berry-patch vibe and was also super practical for any spills! A few red and pink balloons, some strings of fairy lights, and even a small chalkboard sign welcoming guests really set the scene. I also printed out some cute berry-themed signs for different food items. My biggest tip for anyone planning a 'Berry First' birthday party, especially if you're hosting a crowd like our 35 guests, is to prepare as much as you can in advance. Slice your fruits, make your dips, and even prep your cake pops the day before. Don't be afraid to ask for help, just like I mentioned in my original post. Having family bring a side dish or dessert takes so much pressure off. And when you're doing your grocery store birthday party shopping, stick to your list, but also keep an eye out for those unexpected themed gems like the mini donuts – sometimes they're too perfect to pass up! Happy planning, fellow parents!
