𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗡𝗘. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗧 𝗕𝗬 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗬 𝗡𝗔𝗠

One line. Thirty-five hundred years old. Sung in India before the Bible existed, before Buddhism had a name, before anyone had ever heard of a church. Hold onto it, because by the end of this post that one line is going to do something to the most famous man in history.

It is going to explain him.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀

The truth is one.

We hear the word truth and think of facts. Correct answers. There are millions of those, so the line sounds broken before it starts. In the old language the word means the Real. What actually is, before a single opinion forms about it. Reality itself.

So say it again, correctly. Reality is one.

Now test it, because this was never meant to be believed on anyone's authority. Try to imagine two realities. Hold them apart in your mind. Instantly there is a problem. What stands between them? If something stands between them, that something is real too, and now all three sit inside one bigger reality. If nothing stands between them, nothing separates them, and they were never two. Run it with two realities or ten billion. Same result every time. Reality refuses to come in twos. One is not its count. One is its nature.

Now watch what that does to the word God. If reality is one, God cannot be one item and the world a second item standing next to God. Whatever the word God means, it has to mean the One itself. Not a being among beings. Being itself. Not the most powerful thing in the room. The room, the things in it, and the seeing of them.

And the One is not dead matter. Awareness is real. The knowing of this sentence is happening right now, and it is happening inside the One, as the One. The ancient world saw that and started naming what it saw. A name is a door you meet something through. Meet the One as power and the name that comes out is Lord, Father, Almighty. Meet it as love and the name is the Beloved. Meet it as stillness and the name is the Tao. Meet it as the light behind your own eyes and the name is the Self. The One never multiplied. The doors did.

Which brings us to the door called Jesus.

𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗩𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁

Vedanta is the teaching that sits at the end of India's oldest scriptures, and its entire message fits in one sentence: God is one, without a second, and what you are at the deepest point is not separate from that One. India compressed it to three words. You are That.

Now put Jesus on the stand and just read him.

A scribe asks him to rank everything God ever commanded. Which one stands first, above all of it? Look at what he leads with:

"The first of all the commandments is: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord."

— Mark 12:29

Asked for the most important thing in all of scripture, Jesus puts oneness first. Before love God. Before love your neighbor. The Lord is One. And once that lands, the love commandments stop being rules and become simple accuracy, because if God is truly one, without a second, your neighbor is not standing outside of God. Neither are you.

Then he says it about himself, in public, in five words:

"I and my Father are one."

— John 10:30

That is You are That, spoken in Aramaic, fifteen hundred years downstream from the seers who sang it first.

Then he goes further than almost anyone remembers:

"I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you."

— John 14:20

Read it slowly. I in the Father. You in me. I in you. No gaps anywhere in the sentence. This is not monotheism with a special exception carved out for one man. This is nonduality, stated as cleanly as any sage in India ever stated it.

And the night before he died, he prayed. Not for rescue. For this:

"That they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us."

— John 17:21

He was not guarding his oneness with God. He spent his last free night asking that every one of us wake up inside the same One he lived in. He was trying to give it away.

People call it Christ consciousness now, and the phrase is more right than they know. Christ was never his last name. It is a title. A state. The one consciousness, looking out. Christ consciousness is not something Jesus owned. It is something Jesus revealed, and Vedanta had been describing that exact consciousness for over a thousand years before Galilee, under a different set of names. Two labels. One door.

So was Jesus a Vedantist? He never heard the word. He never needed it. Vedanta is not a club you join. It is a description of what anyone finds who goes all the way in. The truth is one, so whoever reaches the bottom reaches the same bottom. A carpenter in Galilee went all the way in and came back saying what the seers of India said, what the Sufis of Islam said when they pushed there is no god but God all the way to there is nothing but God, what Zen said with just two words: not two. Different centuries. Different alphabets. One report.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲

Now the depth, because right here the teaching gets stolen.

The moment a person hears all is one, something in them grabs it for the résumé. If all is one, and I am part of the all, then I am God. The little me hears the holiest sentence ever spoken and tries to cash it. This is the oldest counterfeit there is, and it has to be named cleanly.

The ego is not God. The ego is not the totality of consciousness. The ego is not even a self. It is a thought, the I-maker, flickering on and off inside consciousness a hundred times a day, claiming everything the One does as its own work.

The old teachers settled this with one picture. Consciousness is the moon. The mind is a puddle of rainwater. The ego is the moon's reflection in the puddle, and the reflection has one remarkable talent: it takes credit. It shines with light it does not own and calls itself the source. Now watch what happens to each. Shake the puddle and the reflection shatters; the moon does not tremble. Cloud the water and the reflection dims; the moon loses nothing. Dry the puddle and the reflection is gone; the moon is full.

The reflection was never the moon. And here is the half everyone misses: the reflection was never anything except moonlight, either. The ego is not God, and the ego is not some second thing standing outside God, staining the oneness. It is a shimmer of the One, in a puddle, insisting on a career.

This is how one mouth in Galilee could say both sentences in the same lifetime. I and the Father are one. And: of my own self I can do nothing. No contradiction. The first is the moon speaking. The second is the reflection, finally honest about its light. Every tradition that actually touched the One ends up speaking this double sentence. The Sufis fit it in four words: die before you die.

And this is exactly why realization stays rare while religion covers the earth. The one truth offers the ego two ways to miss it, and both pay well. Push the One far away, into the sky, behind death, available on Sundays through proper channels, and the little me stays employed as the worshiper. Or pull the One in close and wear it, all is one so I am God, and the little me stays employed as the deity. Distance or inflation. Two salaries, same company. Anything except the third thing, the true thing, where the reflection is seen through and every ray of light goes home to the moon. There is nothing in that for the ego. There is everything in it for what you actually are.

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

So give the verse its full weight.

The truth is one. Not a truth. Not your truth or my truth. Not something reached after decades of climbing. One, already, everywhere, without a second. The wise call it by many names, and the names were never the problem. Every honest name ever cried out in any language arrived. All of them arrived. There was only ever One listening.

The ego was never God. You were never the ego.

The truth is one. The wise call it by many names. Two thousand years ago, one of the wise stood up in Galilee and called it Father.

Now you know what he was saying.

... Read moreReflecting on this profound teaching, I have found that embracing the concept of "The truth is one" transforms not only my spiritual outlook but how I interact with others daily. Understanding that the divine or ultimate reality isn’t separate from us but is the very essence of our being helps dissolve feelings of isolation or division. This teaching, which roots deeply in Vedanta and resonates through Jesus’ words, bridges diverse traditions into a common ground grounded in unity. From personal experience, moments of meditation where I focus on the oneness rather than the fragmented self bring immense peace. It’s like glimpsing the moon beyond its reflection on the water—the moon itself never changes, but the ego’s reflection shifts and distorts my perception. Recognizing that ego is merely a transient reflection frees me from its limiting grip, opening space for compassion and true connection. This awareness also reframes the concept of God as not a distant figure but the single reality encompassing everything—matter, awareness, love, and stillness. This singular reality is what Jesus referred to when he said, "I and my Father are one," echoing a truth that Indian sages have expressed for millennia. It invites us to see beyond labels and doctrines, to meet the One through many doors and names without losing sight of its indivisible essence. In practice, living with the understanding "You are That"—you are part of the one reality—encourages humility and unity. It means recognizing others as expressions of the same Oneness, which naturally leads to love and kindness. It also warns against the ego’s temptation to claim divine status, highlighting the importance of seeing through the reflection to the source. Ultimately, this teaching challenges us to go beyond dualistic thinking—beyond "me" and "other," "God" and "world." It offers a pathway to spiritual awakening that is both ancient and timeless, relevant across cultures and religions. For anyone seeking deeper meaning, this truth invites an open-hearted inquiry and the experience of oneness in everyday life, transforming how we perceive ourselves, others, and the universe.

✨ Jesus Is the Only Way, the Only Truth, and the Only Life ✨
In a world full of confusion and endless opinions, Jesus still speaks clearly. He did not say He was one way among many. He said He is the way, the truth, and the life. What a comfort to know that salvation is not found in guessing, striving, or human wisdom, but in Christ alone. #John146 #J
