Berry Loving Baby

Wow, if you're a parent navigating the 9-month mark, you might be right in the middle of a major baby growth spurt! I know I am, and it's been an adventure. Just when you think you've got their routine down, suddenly your little one is hungrier, sleepier (or sometimes less sleepy!), and seems to be learning new things every day. My 'berry loving baby,' who also can't get enough of tomatoes, has been showing all the classic signs, and I wanted to share a bit about what we've been experiencing and how we're coping. One of the first things you'll notice during a 9-month growth spurt is an insatiable appetite. My little one, usually a pretty good eater, suddenly acts like they haven't seen food in days! I've been making sure to have plenty of healthy snacks on hand. Berries – blueberries, raspberries, strawberries – are always a hit. They're packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and perfect for tiny fingers learning to self-feed. And, of course, those juicy tomatoes! I chop them into small, manageable pieces. Other great options we've found are avocado slices, steamed sweet potato chunks, and even small pieces of cooked chicken or fish for protein. It's all about offering nutrient-dense foods to fuel their rapid development. Don't be surprised if they want to nurse or have more bottles, too. Your supply will likely adjust to meet their demand. Beyond the hunger, you might also notice changes in their sleep patterns. Some babies sleep more during a growth spurt, as their bodies are working hard. Others, however, experience a 'sleep regression,' waking more frequently or fighting naps. We've had a mix of both! On those tougher nights, I remind myself that it's temporary and a sign of healthy development. Sticking to our bedtime routine, even if it feels like it's not working, helps us get through it. Developmentally, this period is often amazing. It's like their brain is connecting all the dots. Your baby might suddenly master crawling, pull themselves up to stand, or even start cruising. They might babble new sounds or show a new understanding of words. It can be exhausting for them (and you!), as their little bodies and minds are in overdrive. My baby seems to be practicing standing constantly now! For all the stay-at-home parents out there, or any parent going through this, remember to be kind to yourself. It's intense! Prioritize rest when you can, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Meal prepping healthy snacks for your baby (and yourself!) can be a lifesaver. We've found that having a designated 'snack station' in the fridge with pre-cut fruits and veggies makes it so much easier to grab something quickly when hunger strikes. Stay hydrated, and know that this phase, while demanding, is also a beautiful testament to how fast our little ones are growing and learning. You've got this!
