Library Haul
It’s been awhile since I’ve done a library haul! Here’s what we checked out this week.
Heavy on trucks, trains, and a little pigeon drama.
Trying to balance fun reads, bedtime books, and a few feel-good ones.
I recently went on a library trip with my kids and picked out some wonderful children's books that struck a great balance between fun, education, and comfort. One standout is 'Good Night, Little Blue Truck' by Alice Schertle, a cozy story that says goodnight to farm friends, making it a perfect bedtime read. The rhythmic text and charming illustrations make it a soothing end to the day. For my little train enthusiasts, “Steam Train, Dream Train” by Sherri Duskey Rinker offers a dreamy nighttime ride full of animals loading freight, combining imaginative play with a calming tone for winding down. Similarly, "Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?" by Brianna Caplan Sayres introduces construction vehicles going to sleep, which my children found delightful as they love trucks and machinery. We also enjoyed "The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!" by Mo Willems, which adds a fun twist with the pigeon’s classic humorous chaos and school anxieties. It’s an engaging way to discuss emotions with kids. Another gem was "Alphabet of Affirmations" illustrated by Alanna Flowers, a simple yet adorable alphabet book that promotes self-love and confidence—great for building positive mindsets early on. Lastly, "Dogs Love Books, Too" by Maria Coco Oomsbury was a heartwarming tale about dogs discovering the joy of reading, encouraging a love for books and animals alike. Choosing a mix of lively stories about trucks and trains, gentle bedtime tales, and uplifting affirmations helped keep reading time dynamic and meaningful. Sharing these books created wonderful moments of connection and learning while catering to my child's various interests and moods. I highly recommend mixing playful, calming, and empowering reads when planning your next library haul for kids.
