GRWM: When Your Sunburn Picks Your Outfit
GRWM for a day in the office.
I was a little too optimistic about my sunscreen application this weekend and ended up with a sunburn, so today’s outfit required a slight change of plans. The dress was my starting point, but I added a cardigan to protect my shoulders, stay comfortable, and make the look feel a little more office appropriate.
Honestly, I don’t hate the result. The light blue dress feels perfect for late spring, and the cardigan gives it a polished feel that’s better suited for a day of meetings and emails. Sometimes the outfits you didn’t originally plan end up working out just fine.
Now let’s see if I can remember sunscreen next time.

Dealing with a sunburn can definitely throw a wrench in your outfit plans, especially when you have office meetings to attend. From personal experience, layering with cardigans or lightweight sweaters not only protects your sensitive skin but also adds a polished touch to your look. When I recently had a sunburn, I chose a strapless dress but added a white cardigan to shield my shoulders and keep things professional. This also helped me stay comfortable throughout a long day. Choosing breathable fabrics like cotton or linen is key to avoid irritating sunburned skin further. I also found that applying aftersun lotion generously before getting dressed can soothe the skin and prevent peeling. Having a versatile cardigan handy is a must-have in the spring and summer months, especially if you tend to forget sunscreen occasionally, as I did. Accessorizing carefully helped me feel put together despite the sunburn—minimal jewelry like simple rings and a delicate necklace complemented the outfit without causing discomfort. One trick I learned is to avoid strapless or sleeveless tops if you don’t have strapless bras; instead, layering with cardigans resolves this while maintaining style. This experience reminded me that unplanned outfits sometimes turn out better than expected and that I should never skip sunscreen again! Incorporating sun protection into my daily routine has since become a priority to avoid repeating this situation, ensuring my outfits are dictated by style and not sunburns.
