Responded to a call for a donkey left behind after her owner passed away. We don’t know the circumstances leading up to this but we did find out her name is Jenny🥹 She’s underweight, has severely overgrown hooves, and is in need of some serious TLC. Thankfully, she’s now safe and in much better hands while we work on getting her the care she needs.
We’re also in need of donations of any kind to help support Jenny during her recovery. Hay, feed, treats, halters, or any equine care items are greatly appreciated. Monetary donations are welcome too as we urgently need to get her seen by a vet and farrier as well. Donations for Jenny can be sent to or dropped off at @Fresno Humane.
As a reminder, we’re Animal Control, so Jenny will also need permanent placement through a rescue or sanctuary. If you’re interested in providing Jenny a second chance, please email: RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG 🧡 Every donation, share, and inquiry helps get Jenny one step closer to the life she deserves. 🫏🫶🏼 #donkey #animalcontrol #animalrescue #fyp #vlog
Taking care of a rescue donkey like Jenny requires patience, knowledge, and dedication. From personal experience volunteering with equine rescues, I’ve learned that overgrown hooves can cause extreme discomfort and mobility issues if not addressed quickly by a professional farrier. It’s not just about trimming the hooves but ensuring the donkey’s whole posture and gait are realigned over time. Proper nutrition is also crucial for underweight donkeys. They thrive best on a fiber-rich diet primarily consisting of quality hay and limited grain, tailored to gradually restore their condition without overwhelming their digestive system. Additionally, providing regular dental checks ensures they can chew properly and absorb nutrients efficiently. Emotional care is equally important—donkeys are social animals who benefit immensely from gentle handling and companionship, whether from humans or other equines. If you’re considering adopting or fostering a rescue donkey like Jenny, it’s vital to prepare for a long-term commitment that involves daily care and possibly rehabilitative work. Donations can support not only immediate veterinary and farrier services but also provide ongoing supplies like halters, treats, and specialized feed. Sharing posts or reaching out to local rescue networks can further increase awareness and chances of permanent placement. Rescuing a donkey is a rewarding experience that saves a life and enriches yours. Jenny’s story highlights the urgent need for community support in animal rescue efforts, and every small action—be it spreading the word or donating—makes a significant difference.
