My first seizure in Mexico

My video will be out on YouTube @ 9 am if yall would like to tune in on my story time. I speak about how life changed from one second to the other. And the aftermath of having no answers but plenty of tests and appointments lined up.

For those of you that are epileptic, my props go to you! Yall are some strong soldiers. Two seizures were enough for me.

... Read moreReflecting on my own unexpected seizure experience in Mexico, I've come to deeply appreciate the critical importance of understanding and recognizing seizure symptoms, not just for adults but especially for vulnerable groups like children. While my personal incident happened during waking hours, it has made me incredibly aware of the different ways seizures can manifest, including nocturnal seizures. For parents and caregivers, recognizing child sleep seizures symptoms can be incredibly challenging, yet it’s a vital step towards ensuring proper care and support. The unseen nature of an event like this, especially when it happens during the night, adds another layer of anxiety and concern for families. Nocturnal seizures, by definition, occur during sleep. They can range from subtle changes to more obvious convulsive movements. In children, these symptoms might be easily mistaken for typical sleep disturbances, nightmares, or even just restless sleep. However, some key indicators to watch out for include: unexpected bedwetting, especially if it’s not typical for the child; waking up feeling confused, disoriented, or unusually tired without an obvious reason; unexplained injuries, like a bitten tongue or bruises, found upon waking; or even unusual noises like moaning, crying, or heavy breathing during sleep. Sometimes, a child might just stare blankly for a few moments, or exhibit subtle jerking movements of a limb, or even just seem to ‘zone out’ momentarily. It's not always the dramatic shaking we often associate with seizures, which makes them harder to detect. The fear of not knowing what's happening to your child while they sleep is a heavy burden for any parent. If you suspect a child might be experiencing nocturnal seizures, careful observation is your most powerful tool. Try to note the time, duration, and specific movements or sounds you observe. Was there any stiffening, jerking, or loss of consciousness? Did their eyes roll back or become fixed? Keeping a detailed log can provide invaluable information for doctors, helping them piece together the puzzle. It’s also important to ensure their safety during an episode – remove any sharp objects from the vicinity and try to gently turn them onto their side to prevent choking and ensure a clear airway. Never try to hold them down or put anything in their mouth. Afterward, allow them to rest and recover at their own pace. Always seek professional medical advice promptly if you notice these signs. Early diagnosis and intervention are absolutely key to managing epilepsy and significantly improving a child's quality of life. It can be a long and sometimes frustrating journey of tests and appointments, similar to what I faced after my own seizure. Understanding these often-misunderstood conditions, advocating for proper care, and building a supportive community are all parts of the journey. My own experience, though different, has shown me the immense resilience needed when facing such health challenges, and my heart goes out to all the strong soldiers, young and old, battling epilepsy every day and the families who support them.

What a real panic attack feels like
I used to think panic attacks were a bit… dramatic. Honestly, I thought I’d had them before; two times where I was short of breath, my heart was pounding, and I felt impending doom. But those weren’t real panic attacks. I didn’t know that until I had one. It came out of nowhere. I’d been anxious
