🌸 Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal Better Than The Pouch 🌸
Growing up one of my favorite pouches of oatmeal was the apple & cinnamon one! Now as a grownup with 4 kids I wanted to give them a bit of my childhood… but better so I made it homemade.
Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup of sugar (brown sugar works better here)
• splash of vanilla
• dash of cinnamon
• 1 cup of oats
• 1 3/4 cup milk
•1/2 cup of peeled and diced green apple
• optional topping is granola
Directions:
- In a saucepan on medium heat combine all the ingredients listed above except the granola. Give the mixture a good stir and cover. Cook this mixture for about 10 mins (check often) until the mixture has thickened up and the apples are fork tender. Take the pan off the heat and enjoy!
Making your own apple & cinnamon oatmeal at home allows you to control the ingredients and avoid added preservatives and artificial flavors often found in store-bought pouches. I find that using brown sugar instead of white sugar adds a richer, caramel-like sweetness that complements the tartness of the diced green apples beautifully. Adding a splash of vanilla extract brings a subtle warmth to the dish, elevating the classic flavors. Cooking the oats slowly on medium heat while stirring occasionally helps to develop a creamy texture without sticking. The apples become tender and infused with cinnamon, making every spoonful flavorful. For some extra texture and a delightful crunch, I like to sprinkle granola on top just before serving. This also adds a nice contrast to the softness of the oatmeal. As a mom of four, this recipe is a hit with my kids because it's both comforting and wholesome. It’s a great way to share a bit of my childhood while providing them with a nourishing start to their day. Plus, it’s very customizable – you can swap the milk for almond or oat milk to suit dietary needs, or add a handful of nuts or seeds for extra protein. Overall, making oatmeal from scratch is a simple way to enjoy a warm, tasty breakfast that beats the convenience pouches in flavor and nutrition. Try this recipe for a cozy morning treat that your whole family will love!
