THE BEGGARS’ CHOICE
MARK 10:46-52
In the shadow of Jericho, where the weary tread,
A beggar sat low, with a heart full of dread.
Blind Bartimaeus, his vision obscured,
Yet within him a longing for freedom assured.
“Jesus,” he cried, as the crowd passed him by,
His voice a beacon, reaching up to the sky.
“Son of David, have mercy on me!”
In his plea was a faith that could set him free.
The murmurs around him sought silence his voice,
But he cried out the louder, a desperate choice.
For in the depths of despair, his hope would not wane,
He knew in his heart that his cries were not vain.
In Mark 10:47, his spirit took flight,
For Jesus was coming, the bringer of light.
“Call him,” the Master commanded with grace,
And the beggar arose, his heart in a race.
With the cloak cast aside, he leapt to his feet,
The path of salvation was his to complete.
“Rabbi,” he asked, with a heart full of yearn,
“What do you want?” His passion would burn.
“To see!” was the plea, a request pure and bold,
A vision restored, a new story unfolds.
“Your faith has made you whole,” the Savior declared,
In that moment of grace, all burdens were bared.
So let us remember, in trials we face,
The beggar’s choice echoes with unending grace.
For in our own blindness, when darkness encroaches,
We too can find light, where faith softly approaches.
As we call on His name, let our hearts be set free,
In the depths of our need, let us boldly decree.
For the beggar’s choice teaches, in faith we will find,
That the Savior’s compassion is open, unconfined.
