Oh my goodness, you guys, I just had the most incredible time exploring the Rodin Sculpture Garden at Stanford University, and I absolutely have to share all my tips with you! If you're looking for a peaceful escape surrounded by breathtaking art, this place is a hidden gem right on campus. It's truly one of those spots that makes you feel like you've stepped into another world. First things first, you HAVE to see 'The Thinker' statue up close. It's even more powerful in person, and I spent quite a while just sitting and admiring it. But trust me, there's so much more to discover! The garden is home to the largest collection of Rodin bronzes outside of Paris, and it's just amazing. I was mesmerized by 'The Gates of Hell'—the intricate details and intense figures are truly captivating. It's much larger than I expected and so dramatic. You'll also find a beautiful 'white marble statue' of a seated man that offers a serene contrast to some of the more dramatic bronze pieces. I even spotted a 'dark bronze torso sculpture' nestled perfectly between some hedges, which really makes you appreciate the placement of each piece. For the best experience, I'd highly recommend visiting in the early morning or late afternoon. The light is absolutely magical for photos (especially if you want to capture those dramatic shadows!), and it's usually less crowded, so you can really take your time with each sculpture. Plus, the Californian sun can get quite intense, so a cooler time of day is always a good idea. Wear comfortable shoes because you'll want to wander every path and take in all the views. I loved how some of the sculptures, like the 'reclining nude figure', are positioned with the classic Stanford buildings, like the 'Leland Stanford Junior Museum', in the background, creating a stunning backdrop. Don't forget that the Cantor Arts Center is right next door, so you can easily combine your visit to the sculpture garden with some time indoors. It's a fantastic way to extend your art immersion! There's also a cool 'yellow 'YO' sculpture' nearby that adds a fun, modern touch to the classic surroundings, which I thought was a quirky find. Parking can be a bit tricky on campus, so I usually look for spots near the Cantor Arts Center or use a ride-share service. Trust me, it’s worth the little bit of planning. Walking through the garden, with the tall cypress trees swaying gently, really puts you at ease. It's not just an art exhibit; it's an experience that engages all your senses. Whether you're an art history buff, a photography enthusiast, or just looking for a beautiful place to relax and reflect, the Rodin Sculpture Garden at Stanford is an absolute must-visit. I left feeling so inspired and peaceful, and I can't wait to go back!
