How I make my photos have that little

This is how I make my photos have that little “Dark Effect”

My go to is having my camera exposure at -0.7 all the time, but when I do forget I go to photos and edit it, since I already have it in on all of my photos, I just copy and paste edits. I hope this is helpful (: #photo #photoedit #darkfeminine #socialmedia #instagram

... Read moreI've been obsessed with giving my photos that super chic, dark aesthetic lately, and I've finally nailed down my go-to method! It's actually much simpler than you might think, and once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to apply this look to all your photos with ease. My absolute go-to for starting any photo with that moody vibe is setting my camera's EXPOSURE to -0.7 right from the start. This little trick automatically captures more detail in your highlights and gives your image a slightly underexposed, dramatic base. It sets the perfect foundation for that deep, rich look we're aiming for. It’s a small adjustment that makes a huge difference in how your final edit turns out. But hey, we all forget sometimes, or maybe you're editing older photos! When I need to fix an existing photo that wasn't shot with the perfect exposure, I dive into my photo editor. My core adjustments for achieving this dark effect involve a few key sliders, often inspired by the settings I've found work best. First, I usually bring the overall EXPOSURE down further, sometimes around -25, especially if the original shot was too bright. This really helps to deepen those shadows and create a more intense atmosphere. Next, BRILLIANCE often gets a slight bump down, maybe to -4. This helps to mute overly bright areas without making the photo look dull or flat, preserving a natural feel while enhancing the darkness. HIGHLIGHTS are crucial for this look, so I usually drop them to about -20. This recovers detail in any blown-out bright spots and contributes significantly to that darker, more cinematic feel. Lastly, a subtle adjustment to BRIGHTNESS, often around -5, ensures the overall image maintains its moody depth without becoming completely blacked out, allowing key details to still shine through. Beyond these core settings, I sometimes play with the 'Shadows' slider, boosting them slightly to reveal detail in darker areas while maintaining the overall mood. Increasing 'Contrast' can also enhance the dramatic feel, making your darks deeper and your lights pop just enough. Don't forget about 'Blacks' – pulling these down can add real intensity to your darkest tones, giving your photos that truly striking, deep dark aesthetic. Once I've nailed down an edit I love, my biggest time-saver is the 'copy and paste edits' feature! Seriously, it’s a game-changer for keeping your feed cohesive and saving you so much time. I just apply the same set of adjustments to all my new photos, making my entire gallery look professionally curated with that signature dark aesthetic. This dark aesthetic works wonders for so many types of photos – from moody portraits to atmospheric street photography, and even food shots that you want to look rich and luxurious. Experiment with how it complements your subject! You might find that slightly desaturating colors or adjusting the white balance towards cooler tones can further enhance the mysterious vibe. Give it a try and transform your photos!
