The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World
Spoilers!!!
The book Phone Booth at the Edge of the World is an amazing source of media that allows someone to deal with grief. Recently, I have been dealt the hands of grief and have lost two people I was close to, but reading this book offers closure, and I would recommend it to those who are also dealing with grief, although I would read this book a while after you have come to terms with your loss. This book allows people to know that it is okay to move on after a hard loss. The phone booth is a healthy way of coping, going to a controlled environment where everyone is dealing with grief, and just going into a disconnected phone booth and speaking to their passed loved ones. We know the phone booth is disconnected, but it is quiet and serene enough for us to believe that our loved one is listening in.
Following Yui after she lost her mom and daughter allows people to put themselves into her shoes if someone has lost either, and Takeshi, now a single father after losing his wife, who not only left him behind but also their now mute daughter. It’s important to follow these two to show that moving on is gradual. It isn't an overnight development, but rather it’s long, longer than anyone would want and shows that it’s okay to want to think about them during happy moments when you’re moving on to show that they would be happy about your improvement. Overall it’s a beautifully written book that i think many would enjoy.
