GOING BACK TO SCHOOL IN MY 30's! Never too late!

It's my first semester BACK in school, and I can definitely say this time around.I'm like a little more excited because the determination, discipline, and resources are in place! 🙌🏾

I wanted to share this post because school is often looked at in many ways, but it's your future and your choice! Is it necessary absolutely not, but will it set you up for long-term success... ABSOLUTELY!

When I got out of the military, I was definitely just going to school for "something to do," and I FAILED miserably due to lack of purpose and determination. I didn't even make it through one semester 😅

👏🏾 Now, 3 years later I'm back and ready to see this thing through! 👩🏾‍🏫🎓👏🏾. Anybody else going back to school in their 30s, 40s, or even 50s??? Let me know in the comments. I know I'm not alone, and somebody else might need the encouragement that it's not too late. It's all about what works for you!

... Read moreSeeing that 'Welcome to ASU!' on my admission letter was such a surreal moment! It truly hit home that this time, things are different. For anyone out there, especially women in their 30s, 40s, or even 50s who might be thinking, 'Is it too late for *me*?', I want to share a bit more about what I've learned and what might help you take that leap. First, let's talk about why going back to school is so important, especially as an adult. Beyond just a degree, it's about investing in yourself. For me, it’s about pursuing a passion I put on hold and opening doors for new career opportunities that weren't available before. It's about personal growth, proving to myself I can achieve big goals, and setting an example. Maybe you're thinking about a complete career change, or perhaps you're looking to upskill in your current field. Whatever your reason, the fulfillment you get from learning something new and challenging yourself is incredible. Don't let anyone tell you it's not 'necessary' if it aligns with your vision for long-term success. If you're like some of the queries I've seen – perhaps you didn't finish high school or high school was a long time ago – know that you are absolutely not alone. Many universities, including places like Arizona State University, have fantastic resources and pathways for adult learners and non-traditional students. Don't be shy about reaching out to the admissions office directly. An email to the Arizona State University admissions office can clarify specific requirements, help you understand financial aid options, or even connect you with counselors who specialize in adult education. They can guide you through the process, from transcripts to essays, ensuring your unique background is understood. Choosing what to study can feel overwhelming, especially if you're coming from a different background or it's been years since you were in a classroom. My advice? Start by reflecting on your passions, your career goals, and what problems you want to solve. What knowledge would genuinely excite you and propel you forward? Many institutions offer career counseling services that can help you explore fields aligned with your interests and strengths. Don't feel pressured to pick the 'safest' option; choose something that truly ignites your determination. For some, it might be a new language, for others, coding, business, or even a creative art. The key is to find something that you are genuinely invested in, as that passion will be your fuel. Finally, let's address the practicalities of going back to school in your 30s (or beyond!). It's different from being 18. You likely have more responsibilities, maybe a family, or a job. Time management becomes crucial. I'm already planning my weeks meticulously, setting aside dedicated study blocks, and not being afraid to ask for help when I need it. Building a support system – whether it's family, friends, or fellow adult students – is vital. And remember, technology is your friend! Online resources, virtual study groups, and flexible programs can make a huge difference. Getting that ASU acceptance letter felt like validation, but the real work and joy began when I started planning how to integrate it into my life. It's a journey, not a sprint, and every step, even the small ones, counts. You've got this!
