However, what stood out the most was how Italians naturally respect dogs' personal space. Unlike other places where dogs might be overwhelmed by crowds or invasive strangers, in Italy, people show genuine admiration without crossing boundaries. It's truly refreshing to see people greeting pets with smiles and soft words like "ciao amore," creating a comforting environment for both dogs and their owners. One memorable experience is dining at Osteria da Fortunata, a highly popular spot in Bologna famous for its authentic pasta and tiramisu. The restaurant is often crowded, so arriving early is key—arriving after 4 pm, as we did, is a smart way to secure a table. While enjoying the delicious food, it's heartwarming to see how locals interact with dogs calmly, making the visit even more enjoyable. Also noteworthy is the emphasis on ensuring dogs get enough exercise despite the city setting. Walking or running around outside whenever possible helps keep our furry friends happy and healthy. Even small dogs deserve this freedom. Additionally, the carriers we used not only kept our dogs safe and comfortable but also attracted positive attention. People seemed charmed by the cute little pooches nestled inside, which added to the joyful ambiance. Overall, this experience in Bologna underscored that Italians not only love their food but extend their warmth and hospitality to dogs, making it a perfect destination for dog lovers seeking both culinary delights and a pet-friendly atmosphere.
