Did I just go for a sleepover at my mum’s to make sure my dogs are all settled in before I leave them here for boarding and fly for my China business trip? Yes. I did. 😆 is it very over the top? Yes maybe 🤷🏻♀️

From my personal experience, taking an extra step before leaving dogs for boarding can make a huge difference not only for their comfort but also for my peace of mind. Having a sleepover at my mum’s place gave me the chance to observe how my dogs adjust to the new environment and setup. I made sure to prepare everything carefully: freezing and portioning their food in advance, using pet carriers that fit their size, and placing peepads strategically since one of my dogs prefers to lift his leg when peeing. Also, investing in anti-slip mats helped protect their joints, especially on slippery floors. It’s quite a challenge to find the right mat slope to safely prevent jumping accidents, but it’s worth the effort to avoid injury. Installing CCTV cameras was a game changer for me; being able to check in anytime eased my anxiousness. Plus, having toys and cozy sleeping bags kept them entertained and calm, which helped them settle more quickly. The presence of a helper who could cook and interact with my dogs was another huge benefit during the sleepover. It allowed me to see how they reacted with people and routines they would face during the boarding period. Watching my dog Ori stop needing diapers and learn proper bathroom habits was a proud moment indicating how preparation helps maintain their wellbeing. In summary, while some may consider it over the top, spending a night or two with your dogs where they will be boarded serves as a rehearsal for both pets and owners. It reduces stress, ensures all supplies and safety measures are in place, and ultimately gives both parties confidence that the boarding experience will be a positive one.
