Help yourself before Others

1/9 Edited to

... Read moreIn my personal experience, learning to prioritize myself first has been transformative. Often, I used to feel guilty about focusing on my needs, fearing it made me selfish. However, I came to realize that taking care of my mental, emotional, and physical health enables me to be genuinely present and effective when helping others. Just like the metaphor in the article says, "A tree that refuses water and sunlight for itself can't bear fruit for others." If we neglect our own well-being, our capacity to support friends, family, or community diminishes. This concept resonates deeply with self-love practices I’ve embraced, such as setting clear boundaries and engaging in daily self-reflection. At times, saying no to external demands and dedicating time to recharge felt uncomfortable, but it ultimately enhanced my productivity and success. Instead of exhausting myself trying to meet everyone's needs simultaneously, I focus on sustainable ways to contribute. This balanced approach has also enriched my experience with philanthropy, making my efforts more meaningful and enduring. If you're struggling with balancing self-care and altruism, start small. Prioritize rest, mindful breathing, or activities that bring joy. Recognize that 'being selfish' in these moments is actually an act of strength and essential for your growth and ability to help others effectively.
