Why AI feedback feels useless

I used to think AI feedback was weak.

Like ChatGPT just agreed with everything I said.

Then I realized something simple.

It wasn’t the AI tools.

It was how I was asking.

Most people say:

“How is this?”

That’s not direction. That’s approval.

AI mirrors your input.

If you’re soft, it’s soft.

Now I do this instead:

Challenge my opinion

Find weak points

Rewrite it stronger

Same AI prompts. Completely different output.

This is where AI strategy matters. Not more tools. Better thinking.

Once you start using AI like this, your AI workflow changes. Your ideas get sharper. Your content stops sounding generic.

Most people never get here because they just want validation.

But if AI agrees with you every time… that’s a problem.

Do you use AI for feedback or just for confirmation?

... Read moreWhen I first started using AI tools like ChatGPT for feedback, I encountered the same frustration many do — the responses felt bland, overly agreeable, and rarely helped me improve my work. Over time, I realized the issue is not the AI's capability but the way we prompt it. Instead of asking vague questions like “How is this?” which simply seek validation, I began framing requests that demanded critical evaluation. For example, asking the AI to "challenge my opinion," "find weak points," or "rewrite this stronger" transforms how the AI interacts with my content. It shifts from being a yes-man to an insightful reviewer. This approach requires more intentional and specific prompts, which may take practice but pays off by generating feedback that pushes your ideas further and sharpens your output. Through my experience, I learned that: AI feedback mirrors the quality and direction of the input it receives. A soft, non-specific query leads to soft, general responses. To harness AI’s true potential, you need to think strategically about the prompts you deliver. Once I adopted this mindset, my AI workflow evolved — my content became less generic and more compelling, saving me time and enhancing creativity. If you find AI feedback feels useless, try this simple shift: instead of seeking confirmation, demand critique. Challenge the AI to uncover flaws, question assumptions, and suggest improvements. Not only does this method generate richer insights, but it also helps you develop better critical thinking skills alongside the tool. In summary, AI tools are only as useful as the prompts we craft. Focusing on prompt engineering, AI strategy, and a mindset geared towards growth rather than validation can make a significant difference. This way, AI becomes a genuine collaborator rather than just a cheerleader.
