Bridget & May rough sketches

Hey everyone! I'm genuinely thrilled to share a deeper look into my latest fan art project: these Bridget & May Rough Sketches from Guilty Gear. As a huge fan of the game's vibrant characters and unique designs, Bridget and May have always stood out to me. Their contrasting styles and infectious personalities make them incredibly fun subjects to draw, and I wanted to capture their essence in a more spontaneous, "rough sketch" style before committing to a full-color piece. When I started sketching Bridget, I was really focused on bringing out her cheerful yet complex personality. I loved playing with her signature elements – her blue hooded jacket and glasses immediately come to mind. In one of the close-ups, I tried to highlight her green eyes and that iconic peace sign she often makes, giving her that playful, slightly mischievous look. And of course, you can't have Bridget without thinking of her *yo-yo and teddy bear*; even in a rough sketch, hinting at those details helps solidify her character. The little white crosses on her outfit are also such a distinctive touch that adds to her overall charm. It's a journey to get her proportions just right, especially when she's making dynamic poses! Then there's May, with her boundless energy and unmistakable pirate aesthetic! Getting her right meant really focusing on her expressive face, particularly that adorable winking and smiling expression. Her orange hoodie and that fantastic skull-adorned pirate hat are central to her identity, and I had a blast sketching them. And what's May without her trusty *anchor*? I made sure to include her holding a black anchor in these sketches, as it’s such a powerful symbol of her strength and her connection to Johnny and the Jellyfish Pirates. Trying to capture the movement and dynamism in her pose, perhaps with a hint of her dolphin companion, was a fun challenge. Many of you, like me, probably love the dynamic between Bridget and May. While these are individual character studies, I can definitely see why the "Bridget x May" pairing is so popular in the Guilty Gear community. Their unique fighting styles and even their color palettes create such an interesting contrast that sparks a lot of creative inspiration. Exploring how their personalities might interact, even just visually, is always a delight for artists. For me, the beauty of rough sketches is in the freedom. It's a chance to explore ideas, experiment with poses, and really understand the character's form before adding all the intricate details. It's about capturing that initial spark of inspiration. I often start with simple shapes and gradually build up, refining lines and expressions until I feel like I've got the character's spirit on the page.
