This photo popped up in my feed today and stopped me in my tracks. I took a moment to reflect on who I was just two years ago…
On the outside, I looked fine — smiling, happy, showing up every day. I was working full-time, volunteering at church, helping care for my elderly parents, supporting my family, and running my own side business. I kept pushing through to take care of everyone else.
But inside? I was struggling.
I had crippling plantar fasciitis, fibromyalgia pain, constant brain fog that made functioning difficult, arthritis that made walking a challenge, poor sleep, emotional eating, overwhelming stress, fatigue, and depression.
I hated how I felt and feared I’d never be able to enjoy time with my grandchildren — I had no energy, no hope.
Fast forward to the picture on the right, taken just before I retired from a 44-year nursing career:
