Hikari Instant Miso Soup 🥣
Why I love this low calorie snack: One of my favorite low calorie snacks is instant miso soup! Contains 35 calories fried tofu, 30 calories tofu, 25 calories vegetable, and 40 calories eggplant. It tastes so fresh and flavorful, perfect!
Where to buy? I get these delicious instant soups at 99 Ranch Market, Mitsuwa, Tokyo Central, or my local Asian markets.
How I enjoy it: It’s perfect as a snack, after the gym, side dish, and so healthy. I love all of the flavors but my favorite is the vegetable soup. Obsessed and always have them on hand. I make miso soup too but I really like these lol.
You know, before I found these amazing Hikari Instant Miso Soups, I used to think of miso soup as something you only get at a restaurant or laboriously make from scratch with fresh miso paste. But let me tell you, discovering these little miso blocks changed my snack game entirely! For those wondering, 'what even is a miso block?', it's essentially a dried, compact version of miso soup, often with dehydrated veggies and other goodies already mixed in. It's not just a spoonful of miso paste; it's a complete, single-serving package. This is what makes it so incredibly convenient compared to traditional miso paste that you have to scoop out and whisk. You just drop the block in a bowl, add hot water, and voilà ! Within seconds, you have a warm, comforting bowl of savory goodness. I’ve found that the Hikari ones are particularly good because the blocks dissolve so smoothly, and you get all those delicious flavors and textures right away, just like you see in the pictures when I'm preparing mine. One of the biggest reasons I'm obsessed with this as a low-calorie snack, besides the amazing taste, is how surprisingly filling it is. The umami flavor found in miso is incredibly satisfying, and sometimes that's all your body really craves. Instead of reaching for chips or sugary treats when I feel a bit peckish, a small bowl of instant miso soup hits the spot. It tricks my brain into feeling satiated without piling on the calories, typically ranging from a mere 25 to 40 per serving for the Hikari varieties. This makes it a fantastic tool for managing those mid-afternoon hunger pangs or when you need something warm and nourishing after a workout, as I often do. It's packed with probiotics too, which is a lovely bonus for gut health! While these instant packs are fantastic on their own, don't be afraid to get a little creative to make them even more satisfying or to elevate them into a light mini-meal. I sometimes toss in a few extra thinly sliced scallions, a tiny sprinkle of seaweed flakes, or even a few cubes of soft tofu for added protein and texture without significantly increasing the calorie count. If you like a little kick, a dash of sriracha or chili oil can totally transform the flavor profile. It's a great way to make each bowl a unique experience, whether you're enjoying the classic tofu, earthy vegetable, or savory fried tofu flavors from Hikari. Trust me, once you try customizing your miso blocks, you'll be hooked! It's truly a versatile and healthy staple I always keep in my pantry. It's amazing how something so simple and quick can bring such comfort and satisfaction, making healthy eating not just easy, but truly enjoyable.
