👩🏽‍⚕️📚10 Points to Help you Ace Pathophysiology📚👩🏽‍⚕️

Stressed about patho? You’re not alone! But don’t panic—these are 10 things that helped me ace pathophysiology, break it down, study smarter, and actually understand the material.

1️⃣ Start with a Concept Map (next slide) 🗺️

• Break down diseases into manageable sections: manifestations (symptoms), pathophysiology (what’s happening and why), risk factors, complications, and treatments.

• Concept mapping will follow you your whole journey! 🔑

2️⃣ Brush Up on Medical Terminology 📖

• If you’re not familiar with terms, don’t skip this step! Use the B.U.R.P.S list to learn prefixes, suffixes, and root words.

• Knowing terms like “-itis” (inflammation) and “-ectomy” (removal) will make studying so much easier.

3️⃣ Use ALL Your Resources (useful apps in post) 📱💡

• Chamberlain fam, tap into NVCas videos—they simplify tough concepts! STUDY YOUR EDAPTS. Most of your exam and quiz content comes from them. 📝👀

• Not a student here? Check out Simple Nursing, Mark K (arguably the best🔥), or YouTube for simplified explanations and NCLEX-style tips.

• NotebookLM’s podcast feature = heaven sent for studying ANY subject!

• Ask ChatGPT to make you practice questions!

4️⃣ Active Recall is Your BFF 💭

• Don’t just read and re-read your notes. Test yourself by summarizing material, using flashcards, or answering practice questions.

• Quizlet, Kahoot, and ATI are great for this!

5️⃣ Practice Questions are Key ✍🏾💡

• The more questions you do, the more familiar you’ll get with the exam style.

• Focus on application, NOT just memorization.

6️⃣ Make It Make Sense 🧩

• Use mnemonics, stories, or acronyms to simplify complex topics!

• Create something that sticks in your brain and makes sense to YOU! 🫵🏾💡

7️⃣ Teach What You’ve Learned 🗣️

• Explaining a concept to someone else (or even to yourself!) solidifies your understanding.

8️⃣ Know the Principles 🔍

• AGAIN— Focus on understanding WHY diseases occur rather than just memorizing facts.

• Make connections between concepts! If you don’t know much about one disease, think about what you know about a similar one.

- Example: If you understand how hypertension affects the heart, you can apply that knowledge to how chronic kidney disease develops due to high blood pressure over time.

- Increased ICP can be caused by brain trauma (like falling). Elderly people are more prone to falls—so what else might they be at risk for? 🤔 Dementia! Connect the dots! 📍🧠

9️⃣ Find a Great Study Spot 🎧☕📖

• Choose a quiet, comfortable place with minimal distractions.

• A library, study room, or a coffee shop with noise-canceling headphones that can help you focus.

🔟 Don’t Forget Self-Care 💙

• Hydrate, sleep, and take mental breaks—you can’t pour from an empty cup!

Patho is just a giant puzzle—piece it together, and it all makes sense! As long as you study smart, stay consistent, and trust yourself you have everything you need to succeed.

Begin with creating concept maps that link manifestations, risk factors, and treatments. Using technology like apps and videos can provide simplified explanations. Don't forget to leverage active recall methods, such as flashcards and practice quizzes, to reinforce knowledge. Additionally, developing a strong foundation in medical terminology will simplify complex topics. As you prepare, remember to engage with your peers—teaching others is a great way to solidify your understanding. Lastly, prioritize self-care by taking breaks and ensuring you have a suitable study environment. With these tips, pathophysiology can become not just manageable, but enjoyable!
