Book: Where’s Molly by HD Carlton

I read Haunting Adeline, Hunting Adeline, and Satan’s Affair at the beginning of this year and finally got around to reading this spinoff.

I will say I have not seen many reviews about this book that were good. To be honest, I really loved Molly’s point of view and her story. This book made me laugh and cry and everything in between. I just wish her story lasted longer. I hope HD Carlton makes another book about Molly reuniting with Layla and that they get their HEA.

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's chat about 'Where's Molly' by H.D. Carlton! I know there are a lot of mixed feelings out there about this spin-off, especially after the intense ride of 'Haunting Adeline' and 'Hunting Adeline.' But honestly? I went in with an open mind, and I'm so glad I did because this book truly captured my heart. For those familiar with H.D. Carlton's style, you know she doesn't hold back. And 'Where's Molly' is no exception. While it definitely carries that signature dark romance vibe, I found Molly's perspective to be incredibly refreshing and deeply moving. Her journey felt so raw and authentic. I think that's why this book made me laugh and cry – sometimes within the same chapter! You really get pulled into her world, understanding her struggles, her resilience, and her desperate longing for something more. Her voice is just so strong and unique, it’s hard not to root for her, even when things get incredibly dark. This isn't just another dark romance; it's a character study wrapped in one. Some people might go into this expecting another 'Haunting Adeline' level of intensity, and while it has its moments, I felt it offered a different kind of emotional depth. It delves more into the aftermath and the personal journey of healing and finding oneself, rather than just the initial shock and awe. The character development for Molly was phenomenal, and seeing her navigate her past and present really resonated with me. I appreciate how Carlton explores the complexities of trauma and recovery through Molly's eyes, giving her a voice that's both vulnerable and incredibly strong. And let's talk about that cover! The imagery of the skull and flowers perfectly encapsulates the blend of darkness and a glimmer of hope that runs through Molly’s story. It’s a visual representation of finding beauty amidst the chaos, which is a major theme in the book. My honest book review wouldn't be complete without mentioning how these visual cues, like the yellow stars and red chili peppers often used in reviews, truly match the reading experience: a solid 4-star read with just the right amount of spice to keep things interesting without overshadowing the emotional core. What I truly wish for is a sequel! The ending left me yearning for more of Molly's story, especially seeing her hopefully reunite with Layla and finally get the HEA she so richly deserves. It’s rare for a spin-off character to leave such a lasting impression, but Molly absolutely did for me. If you're on the fence because of those mixed reviews, I encourage you to give 'Where's Molly' a chance. If you appreciate character-driven narratives within a darker romance setting and are open to seeing a familiar world through new eyes, you might just find yourself falling for Molly's tale just as much as I did. It’s a journey worth taking, trust me!
