proof that mindset is everything.

almost one month ago i had surgery and didn’t touch a single weight. before surgery i was squatting 20kg a side. today, on my very first session back, i squatted 10kg a side, 4x12.

to some people that’s a step backwards.

to me, it’s proof that mindset will always BEAT a setback.

because the hardest part was never the weight. it was believing i could walk back into the gym after a month away and trust my body again.

i’m not focused on what i’ve lost. i’m focused on where i’m going. if i can come back after four weeks away and do this on day one with this mindset, imagine where i’ll be after another month. another three. another six.

setbacks don’t make you weaker unless you let them. they teach you discipline, resilience and gratitude for the progress you get to earn all over again.

and honestly, a setback can look like anything…

surgery.
an injury.
a holiday.
a tough season.
losing motivation.
life just getting in the way.

we all have them.

so let this be your reminder that your body will follow where your mind goes🤍

It’s easy to focus on lost progress, but shifting focus to what’s ahead turns setbacks into opportunities for growth. One month away from the gym taught me valuable lessons about patience and self-compassion. Starting lighter weights wasn’t failure—it was a commitment to consistency and listening to my body. This mindset shift allowed me to see every small workout as a victory rather than a sign of limitation. Many people underestimate how crucial mental resilience is when recovering from injuries or interruptions like holidays or busy periods. Rather than seeing these breaks as obstacles, embracing them as part of the journey prepares you to come back stronger both physically and mentally. In fact, setbacks often foster discipline by requiring intentional effort to restart. They remind us to appreciate progress that might once have seemed routine. Through this lens, every lift or squat after a break is proof that mindset truly is everything. For anyone facing similar challenges, my advice is to start where you are, celebrate incremental improvements, and visualize long-term goals. Trust that your body will follow where your mind leads. Recovery is not linear, but with patience and a strong mindset, the path forward is always upward.
