At first, my nails would only last about two weeks before starting to lift and pop off, which was frustrating. This lifting issue is quite common among beginners who are still mastering their technique and understanding the nail preparation process.
From my experience, the most important factors for improving retention include thorough nail prep, proper adhesive use, and careful application technique. Ensuring the natural nail is clean and free from oils or moisture before applying enhancements is crucial. Buffing the nail surface slightly and using a dehydrator can help adhesives bond more effectively.
I also found that using high-quality glue and properly curing gels if used made a significant difference. Additionally, technique adjustments such as avoiding excessive product near the cuticle and applying even pressure during the application helped minimize lifting. It’s important not to rush the process and allow time for products to set properly.
Throughout my learning journey, trial and error played a big role. Watching educational tutorials, seeking advice from experienced nail techs, and practicing consistently helped me improve both the quality and durability of my nail work. If you’re a beginner nail tech facing similar retention challenges, don’t get discouraged. Focus on mastering your prep and application steps, and your work will last longer and look more professional over time.
