First 3 Weeks As A First Time Mom

Whew. It’s been a time. 🤪

I am fortunate to have newborn experience with my niece and nephew so I’m pretty well versed. The night time and full time aspect of having your own child though is a whole other ballgame.

I’ve enjoyed contact naps (don’t come for me, but I do this as much as possible because one day they will be no more), all the snuggles, and seeing my baby boy thrive. All the new experiences of having your own child after so many years of infertility has filled my heart with so much joy.

Sleepless nights have been rough, but my husband and mom will care for him sometimes during the day so I can get restful naps. Pumping has been difficult as my supply is a bit low. The goal was to breastfeed, but since I’ve had to supplement with the preemie formula he hasn’t wanted to latch.

I’m excited for what’s to come and taking each day slowly. The little moments such as this picture are what I cherish and still can’t believe are real.

... Read moreThe journey of motherhood brings unique challenges and joys, especially in the initial weeks. Embracing contact naps can foster closeness, while also addressing the demands of sleep deprivation is crucial for recovery. Pumping can present challenges; supplementing with formula may be necessary for some babies. Resources and support networks are available for new mothers facing similar challenges. Engaging with community groups on platforms like Lemon8 can provide emotional support and practical tips from other moms. Remember, every mother's experience is different, and finding your rhythm takes time. Celebrate those small moments of joy and connection with your baby, as they are precious and fleeting. Understanding that it's okay to ask for help and to rely on family support can transform your experience. Embrace each day at your pace and remember to practice self-care amidst the whirlwind of new motherhood.

Contact naps were my favorite. I miss them so much. I know it’s hard but soak it all in. It goes by so much faster than you realize.
