Tuesdays are some of the best days of me week because that’s the first day of the week I go to dance class! Typically on a Tuesday I take a pro prep class. It’s a dance class for girls who want to dance on nfl and nba type dance teams. But this Tuesday that class was cancelled, so I went to hip hop instead.
The second class is acro, and it makes me feel like a kid again. This is where I get to work on all kinds of tricks, from rolls to aerials. It’s so fun and really challenges me to push myself. This week in acro I did a back handspring! I hadn’t tried one since like… 2017 so it was scary to try but exciting when I landed it.
I’m excited for the rest of my week, and what next Tuesday will bring!
... Read moreStepping into a hip hop class is always an adrenaline rush! The energy in the dance studio, the beat dropping, and seeing yourself in the mirror pushing your limits – it’s just electric. If you've ever thought about trying a hip hop dance class, I say go for it! Don't worry about being perfect; it's all about feeling the music and letting loose. I remember my first hip hop class, feeling a bit awkward, but the instructors were so encouraging. Now, it's one of my favorite ways to express myself and get an incredible workout. The huge mirrors in the studio aren't just for checking your form; they're also a great way to connect with your own movement and see your progress.
Our dance studio isn't just a building; it's a second home. The polished floors, the high ceilings, and of course, those massive mirrors – they all create an atmosphere of focus and inspiration. There’s something special about looking at your reflection, seeing not just your moves but also the effort and passion in your eyes. That's why a studio mirror selfie becomes such a natural part of a dancer's diary. It’s a way to document progress, celebrate small wins, and share the joy of being in your element. For me, catching that perfect 'mirror selfie' after a tough class is a little reward, a snapshot of pure dedication.
And then there’s acro! It truly makes me feel like a kid again, rediscovering the joy of movement and defying gravity. This week, nailing that back handspring for the first time since 2017 was a huge personal victory. It felt scary, exhilarating, and incredibly rewarding all at once. Acro isn't just about cool tricks; it's about building strength, flexibility, and trust in your body. If you're looking to add a different kind of challenge to your fitness routine, acro is an amazing option. It pushes you in ways you wouldn't expect and makes you feel incredibly empowered.
For anyone out there, whether you're an aspiring 'danicer' (as some might type!) or just looking for a fun new way to stay active, I highly recommend finding a dance class that excites you. Whether it’s hip hop, ballet, or acro, the benefits go beyond just physical fitness. It's a community, a creative outlet, and a fantastic way to boost your confidence. Don't be afraid to try new styles or step out of your comfort zone. Every dancer starts somewhere, and the journey is the most beautiful part. So grab your gear, find a studio, and maybe even snap a mirror selfie to document your own 'Dancer Diary' moments! The satisfaction of seeing your own growth, both in the mirror and in your skills, is truly unparalleled.
