Let it be known that this is my first 5-star read of the year! Wow!
The trials in a fantasy read isn’t anything new, but the plot of it was so interesting. Stripped of power, fueled by vengeance, and having lost everything because of a lie. Rose is driven to win a deadly competition to save herself and her sister from living in the slums.
I was so stuck in this story that I refused to put it down. The writing was descriptive, and at times, sharp and witty, which I loved. I flew through the pages. The pacing was perfect for me, I was not bored one bit. The characters were so relatable. I got too attached, and well, when sh*t went down, so did I.
The slow-burn romance was an especially big plus for me. The delicious build-up, those lingering glances, and the tension had my heart fluttering with excitement. And how it ended??? I need the next book now!
