Was I too far?
Paid for my sister-in-law’s dream wedding venue — $8,000 deposit — after my husband asked us to help. All I asked was that the deposit be in my name, which they agreed to.
Then I found out my husband cheated. Divorced him immediately. His family? Lost their minds — but not about him. They called me a gold digger and expected me to still bankroll the wedding.
Three days before her wedding, I cancelled the venue. Got $6,400 back. She ended up having a backyard/community center wedding. Half the guests came. The whole thing was a mess.
Legally? I was in the clear. Morally? I can’t help but think I might’ve been too harsh. But after being called names and treated like my money was all they cared about, was I really wrong for taking a stand?
Would you have let them guilt you into paying for it, or pulled the plug like I did?
