Safe for my prenatal loves too!! Sooo many more pregnancy safe Pilates classes to come as I’ve got baby 2 on the way 😊 #prenatalpilates #pilatesmat #pilatesathome
When I found out I was expecting baby number two, one of my first thoughts was, 'How can I stay active and feel my best throughout this pregnancy?' That's where prenatal Pilates truly became my best friend! Many expecting mamas wonder, 'Is Pilates safe during pregnancy?' and I can confidently say, yes, it absolutely can be, with the right modifications and guidance. It's not just about staying fit; it's about preparing your body for birth and supporting your recovery afterward. For me, Pilates has been a game-changer for maintaining core strength, improving my posture, and keeping those pregnancy aches at bay. Unlike some more strenuous workouts, pregnancy safe Pilates exercises really focus on gentle strengthening and flexibility, which is exactly what our changing bodies need. I find it’s incredibly empowering to know I’m doing something positive for myself and my baby. Let me tell you about some of my go-to prenatal Pilates exercises, many of which you can find in my full-body sculpt workout! These are all about building strength without strain, perfect for any stage of pregnancy, whether you're looking for early pregnancy Pilates or exercises suitable for 38 weeks pregnant. Clamshells: Oh, the beloved clamshell exercise! This is a fantastic pregnancy safe clamshell exercise that targets your glutes and hips. As our pelvis widens and ligaments soften, hip stability becomes super important. I usually aim for 10 reps on each side – it really helps strengthen those outer hip muscles, which can alleviate lower back pain and support your pelvic floor. Remember to keep your core gently engaged and move slowly. Bird Dog: This is a classic for core stability and back health. Doing 10 bird dog reps, sometimes followed by 8 bird dog rounds to extend, is perfect for strengthening your deep abdominal muscles and improving balance, which can get a little tricky as your bump grows! Keep your spine neutral and movements controlled. Squats: Don't underestimate the power of squats! I do about 16 reps. They are amazing for strengthening your legs and glutes, which will be so helpful during labor and for carrying your baby afterward. You can do them with or without support, just make sure your knees track over your toes. Leg Lifts & Circles: Gentle leg lifts (around 10 reps) and circles (8 each way) are wonderful for hip mobility and strengthening your inner and outer thighs without putting pressure on your abdomen. I often pair these with a "second leg clam + lift" for a comprehensive lower body burn. Hug a Tree: This one, with 16 reps, is brilliant for opening up your chest and strengthening your upper back, counteracting the rounded shoulders that can come with pregnancy. Imagine you're gently hugging a big tree! The best part? ALL of these are safe Pilates exercises during pregnancy that you can do right at home! No fancy equipment needed, just a mat and your amazing body. The OCR mentioned "ANYONE can do this," and it’s true! Whether you're new to fitness or a seasoned pro, these movements can be adapted. Always listen to your body, and if something doesn't feel right, stop. Staying hydrated and consulting with your doctor or midwife before starting any new exercise routine is always a must. If you're eager to join thousands of others getting strong at home, many of these moves are part of the full classes I offer in my online studio. It’s such a supportive community, and I truly believe that investing in your physical well-being during pregnancy is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your little one. You'll feel stronger, more energetic, and more prepared for whatever motherhood brings!
