these methods can be applied to a wide variety of plants- not just succulents & cacti! having a top layer is not only decorative, but functional as it helps prevent bugs (especially gnats & fruit flies) from invading the soil 🫶

When adding top layer, fill pot with about 75% soil first. Pot plant & ensure roots are in soil. Then, cover remaining 25% with top layer of choice.
