I left my garden for a week 😬

6/16 Edited to

... Read moreLeaving your garden unattended for a week can be nerve-wracking, but my recent experience showed that with a few simple steps, your plants can still flourish. Before I left, I set up water globes to maintain moisture levels, which proved to be a lifesaver, especially for my container garden. These globes slowly release water, preventing soil from drying out quickly during hot summer days. I also noticed that last night's rainfall gave my garden a fresh boost, highlighting how natural weather can complement your watering routine. One issue I faced was my green stalk plant tipping over and laying on the ground. To fix this temporarily, I used twine and improvised tying methods to support the plant, though I plan to replace it with proper stakes soon. This taught me the importance of sturdy supports if you expect to be away for extended periods. My strawberries were a delightful surprise, sending out runners and even rooting on their own, which suggests that strawberries are resilient and can spread if left undisturbed. The pepper plant grew bigger than when I left, showing that plants can continue to thrive even in your absence if given proper care beforehand. For those considering leaving their gardens unattended, I recommend setting up automated or passive watering systems, securing plants that might sag or fall, and ensuring soil health so plants retain moisture longer. Regularly harvesting ripe produce, like I did with my tomatoes, also encourages further production. Overall, my garden's performance while I was away made me feel confident that with some planning, a home garden can indeed thrive even during your short breaks.
