Cancun Mexico

These pictures were taken the second night one of my friends and I were in Cancun Mexico. It was a short trip we went for just a slightly extended weekend a Friday to a Sunday. We did fly out Thursday, but it was late at night so our first full day was Friday. we spent most of the day Friday enjoying the resort hanging by the beach the pool and eating the all you can eat that was included. After lunch, we headed back to the beach where we had signed up to go kayak. We’re all excited to get her on the water and just see the ocean from a different side. Unfortunately, for us, we would end up, tipping the kayak and losing our phones in the ocean. we both lost our phones in the ocean. We didn’t even notice until we headed back to shore that our phones were no longer in the boat. They provided us with a plastic zipper bag to store all her personal belongings. Now I had mine in the zipper bag. My friend was using hers to take some pictures, but when the boat tipped over, she dropped hers and mine just drifted down into the ocean and the zipper baggie. Yes we were very stressed out. Very concerned. We had people back home that were waiting on text from us to see how the trip is going. So we ended up calling a cab and going to a local mall and I ended up buying a new phone that we ended up sharing for the weekend so least we could communicate and text people. I wasn’t able to get it set up with my carrier at the time but we were able to use the Wi-Fi and messaged people through WhatsApp or social media. Needless to say, we learned our lesson leave the phones at home and live in the moment. The ocean is no place for electronics. #storytime #lemon8contest #mexico #travel #ocean #phone #laugh

... Read moreLooking back at our Cancun trip, even with the phone mishap, it truly was an unforgettable adventure. That moment, seeing our phones disappear into the beautiful turquoise ocean, taught us a profound lesson. While we were initially stressed, it forced us to disconnect in a way we never would have otherwise. Imagine, no scrolling, no notifications – just the sound of waves crashing onto a sandy beach under a clear blue sky. It was a raw, unfiltered experience, and honestly, everyone has a story to tell, and this became ours! If I were to go back, or if I were giving advice to friends planning their own ‘fun stuff to do in Cancun’ itinerary, I’d definitely emphasize phone safety. Invest in a proper, tested waterproof phone case, or even better, leave your expensive electronics securely locked in your hotel room when you're heading out for water activities. Trust me, the view of the vibrant ocean and the feeling of the sun on your skin is far more valuable than any picture you could take in that moment. Beyond the resort pool and beach, which are fantastic, Cancun offers so much more. For truly fun stuff, consider a day trip to Isla Mujeres. You can rent a golf cart and explore the island at your own pace, find stunning cliffside views, and relax on quieter beaches. Or, for an incredible cultural experience, visiting the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza or Tulum is a must. Seeing those majestic structures up close is breathtaking and provides a fascinating glimpse into history. And don't forget the cenotes! These natural swimming holes, often hidden in the jungle, offer crystal-clear waters perfect for a refreshing dip, snorkeling, or even diving. Each one has its own unique charm, from open-air pools to cavernous underground wonders. They are truly one of Cancun's hidden gems and make for fantastic memories. Finally, dive into the local cuisine beyond your all-inclusive. Seek out authentic tacos, fresh ceviche, and delicious street food. Exploring the local markets and trying new flavors is an adventure in itself. Our experience taught us that sometimes the best 'fun stuff' isn't what's planned, but what you discover when you're fully present. So, embrace the clear blue sky, the sound of the waves, and make your own incredible Cancun story – perhaps just a bit more phone-safe than ours!
