Okay, so I have to tell you about my latest coffee shop obsession in Columbia, SC: Bitty & Beau's. It's not just another place to grab a latte; it's genuinely a 'human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop,' as they say. From the moment you walk in, the energy is just so positive and welcoming. I picked up my usual order (a classic latte, of course!) in one of their distinct black Bitty & Beau's Coffee cups, but I also saw someone enjoying a vibrant orange drink in a clear cup with a black straw – it looked so refreshing! The handwritten 'We love YOU!' message on the cups or maybe even a napkin really stuck with me. It’s those little touches that make you feel truly seen and appreciated, and it completely brightened my day. What truly makes Bitty & Beau's a safe space and stand out from other coffee shops? It's their incredible mission to employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every interaction is filled with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. You leave feeling not only caffeinated but also incredibly inspired and uplifted. It’s a place where everyone belongs, and you can truly feel that sense of community and acceptance. The baristas are so skilled and friendly, always ready with a smile and a genuinely kind word. It's amazing to see how they've created an environment where everyone can thrive. Beyond the amazing mission, the coffee itself is fantastic. They have all the classics, from rich espressos to creamy lattes, and a great selection of teas and other specialty drinks. I love that I can get my caffeine fix while also supporting such a meaningful cause. Their menu is thoughtfully put together, offering something for every taste, whether you're a hardcore coffee connoisseur or just looking for a refreshing iced beverage. It's located right on 1001 Gervais St, making it super convenient if you're ever downtown Columbia and looking for a welcoming spot.
