How I hope to love and forgive like Jesus
Loving and forgiving like Jesus is a profound journey that touches the core of our humanity. Reflecting on the story of Jesus washing His disciples' feet on His last day, despite knowing all the suffering He would endure, truly inspires the depth of humility and love we can strive to embody. In my own experience, embracing forgiveness is not always easy. It requires patience, empathy, and a willingness to look beyond hurt and resentment. Jesus’ example shows us that forgiveness is an active choice — one that often means putting others before ourselves and offering grace even when it feels undeserved. One powerful way to cultivate that spirit is through small daily acts of kindness and understanding. Whether it's listening without judgment, offering help without expecting anything in return, or simply being present for someone in pain, these moments build our capacity to love like Jesus. Moreover, forgiving does not mean forgetting or condoning hurtful actions; it's about freeing ourselves from the hold of bitterness that damages our hearts. Over time, forgiveness fosters peace and restores relationships, but it often starts within us through prayer, reflection, or meditation on teachings of compassion. As we seek to love like Jesus, it helps to acknowledge our own imperfections and need for grace. This humility opens the door to personal transformation and deepens our connections with others. Remembering Jesus’ willingness to wash feet — a humble act of service — calls us to prioritize love and forgiveness in our interactions. These principles can guide us through conflicts, heal emotional wounds, and inspire a more compassionate community around us.
